Nolls from Harrogate

Nolls from Harrogate Report 26 Jul 2013 21:56

Hello Bendigo Bill Think the Road Bridge was started in 1959 and opened in 1964 maybe you were looking out of the other side of the train so missed it !! Not seen the Forth Bridge for a while but was interested to see that it was painted with special paint so that it won't be needing painted again for about 25 yrs... Hope it's worth the £130m ...I suppose quite a lot of painters lkhave lost their jobs :-(

Well Scozz,
I had no idea that the "Big Hairy Drummer Men" actually had a band name.. .. so
they're called .....Clanadonia?
They are always Buchanan Street Glasgow.and are a big draw with the crowds.
I posted a link a few days ago re a shop called Tartan Plus, (owned by OH's nephew) and the drummers play outside it on a regular basis
However the Hairy Men have to move pitch every few numbers because the drums are so loud that the shopkeepers can't hear their customers.

I must admit that the drummers are in Glasgow less often than they were, and I suppose they must be getting gigs by now.
I expect that every single person in the Glasgow area has seen and heard them play at some point!.... You couldn't possibly miss them. LOL

Edit:
Around Christmas time Glasgow is full of buskers.
There are 2 young lads in kilts with bagpipes who play the same half a dozen numbers over and over and over again....interspersed with bursts of the "Hokey Cokey", actions and all, whilst piping.
It was amusing at first but became boring after a while.
I hadn't realised that other shoppers had bored of it too.

One afternoon, The Big Hairy Drummer Men were banging their drums and playing their pipes as usual... when they suddenly burst into the Hokey Cokey... totally immitating the 2 boys.

It was so funny to see it.... just about every one in Buchanan Street laughed because they knew exactly what the Hairy Men were up to... they were bored of it too!

Hi Bendigo Bill,

I used to find it interesting in the 1960's travelling across the Forth Bridge looking out of the carriage windows to see the Forth Road Bridge being constructed on my way to Football matches at Cowdenbeath, Dunfermline, Raith Rovers and East Fife..

Happy days of old!!

Hi Robert, I too love the Forth Bridge, I used to Cross over it on my Scotland England runs. I'm Afraid I didn't spend too much time exploring Scotland before I left there in 1955.
I have regretted it since. Lived in most other countries since then, but none as beautiful
as SCOTLAND.
I Introduced myself on Page 3 of this thread, although Ive changed the picture.
PS (Cant find it now)
Bendigo Bill.

Glasgow Lass remember to have a pot of coffee boiling and put some baps in the oven that's sure to get them going or so they say :-D Anyway fingers crossed. Well we have had the most horrendous rain for about half an hour left the windows open and everywhere is soaking inside! and now beautiful bright sun but at least the clammy feeling has gone thank goodness. Been into town this morning goodness was it busy especially with tourists oh I do get cross at them as I walk with a stick and have to sit down every second bench I could have chased them away as every bench was taken ughh! :-P ended up going into bank to sit down and of course what do you do in a bank?? Mmm! get money of course you do so had to get some out just in case! then into M&S it wasn't too bad so stood behind lady with just a few bits and bobs ...big mistake lady in front of her was checking everything she had bought faffed around with her purse did everything to hold us up looked at every item as she put it in the bag I nearly went up to her to say Look I'll pack for you ... ok don't shout at me there was nothing wrong with her just annoying and I am a grouchy old c*w :-( Oh Yes then got home there's been a phone for you from windows people, will phone back .. we had new ones in last week and asked for an estimate for patio doors which we might get in Jan this was explained when they came .. no problem.. estimate open for 1 yr . Then surveyor came and said you want it in on 26/8..NO ! ... oh OK .... Phone call from a salesman for 26th No ok will phone you in Nov, good! Then Phone goes when I got home , really hard to explain to girl eventually she agreed Jan, ... then post came letter saying they would put in on 26th ..another phone .. "yes ok Jan" ! ...then another phone a bit later stating they would be ready for the 26th OMG No! So said come by all means but you won't get paid " Oh! let me see OK put down Jan. so we shall see what happens on the 26/8 talk about the right hand not knowing what the left is doing! .... Does all this make sense to you or am I babbling, sorry if I am just had a day of it :-D

Same here, GL.

Still very humid here, with some rain.

Last week, when it was very hot, only one of our car's electric window would open. It does have aircon, but that couldn't cope with 31c+ temperatures (well, not until we had got where we were going!). Next day it was fine (the window as well as the weather).

Yesterday, fairly warm, windows all working (well except driver's and that has been happening for quite a while). Coming home yesterday evening front passenger's window (mine) wouldn't close (had been left open as dogs were in car). By then the temperature had dropped considerably and I had quite a chilly drive home and just before we got home it started to rain! Are we the only people with a frost cover over our car!

Have to go shopping this afternoon, so hope it doesn't rain then.

Morning all,
Hope you are having a good day.
The rain has kindly fallen during the last 2 nights/early morning leaving us with fairly sunny days... but it is still rather warm... and humid!

Been trying to sell a one bed flat and put on the market in November of last year
( OH's mum died--- sister moved into mum's flat--- and it's sis's flat we need to sell)
Until now there has been no interest at all but the very first viewer is coming tonight!
Fingers crossed X X

Off to work now. Have a good day.
