A wee story ~

In parts of Scotland it was considered unlucky for an outsider to call a child by its name until it was christened; even at the ceremony, many preferred not to say the name, and they would hand the clergyman a piece of paper with the name written on it.

One day a couple brought their infant daughter to the church.

The minister asked what name would be given to the child

The father muttered something, sounded like "Spindoana"

"That's an unusual name" said the minister

"I baptise thee Spindoana"

"NAW, NAW" said the father. "Her name's no Spindoana!! It's pinned oan her shawl!"

:-D

Should I also post this on a separate thread? :-)

Now, now Glasgow Lass - behave!!!

It is possible because Nolls lived at one side of the Prison and I lived at the other side.

We both worked in George Street, Nolls at one end I worked at the other.

But then I am so much older than Nolls by a long, long way.

I worked in Glasgow (Gordon Street) many years ago so I could even know you Glasgow Lass!!!

This is for OFITG.....
Just been out for a family lunch .. a lovely wee restaurant near Stewarton in Ayrshire.

I had steak and ale pie...... and it had whole, link sausages in it!

It was delicious but I am soo stuffed that I can hardly move.

I was still rather full from the huge Birthday buffet we had last night for my daughter .

It's OH's birthday next weekend... help!

Robert Report 28 Jul 2013 17:35

There were in my young day 17 pubs in Rose Street. My office was at the St Andrew Square end of George Street, so we got to the Pubs quickly after work, The Abbotsford being the nearest.
