I've never come across a deep-fried Mars bar either, but then again I rarely go to a chip shop.
I was also in the No camp, but am now undecided. I think we all need more information, accurate information that is, not the guff spouted by both Yes and No camps.
By the way RolloTheRed, it's Fort George - and just a mile away from here.
I grew up on Skye long before the bridge was even thought of.
I agree, you can buy all malts in London, but you will find they are made in Scotland. Naturally, we export them - we're not stupid! The heather is on the hillsides, not growing from our ears!
However, I'm sorry you have such a low opinion of my country. Generally, we give a warm welcome to people, whether they are working here or on holiday.
I trust you have all the details of the children born at the Fort. If not, please let me know the names and I'll see what I can do.

Born in Edinburgh, grew up beside Saughton Prison in Edinburgh and came to live in the North East of England 50 years ago.

We were sitting out in the garden last night and lit the fire-pit
Quite late-on, I remebered the whisky thread... so I popped indoors and made a large pot of coffee.
I made mine in a large glass, added a (very large measure) of blended whisky and topped it off with double cream.
I intend to do the same again tonight, but possibly with Brandy or Glayva !

I was just thinking what I miss about Scotland well apart from it being home and the people I miss a decent bap/roll a Well Fired Roll (the darker it's fired the better. ) just can't get anything like them down here or Aberdeen rolls full of butter heat them in the oven and add more butter ...Oh Yes! then again we miss White Pudding Suppers ...like others here have never seen a fried Mars !! :-D

Been up to Scotland with my mate who wont admit he's a Jock, thought the place was good, beautiful countryside and the people were really friendly unlike the welsh.

We were in London, went to a show on Saturday night, thought we'd have a late dinner afterwards.

Taxi driver said we wouldn't find a place open! 10pm on a Saturday!! London!

We ended up at a pizzaria, they were cleaning up..... they would feed us, but not anything fancy. I had pasta, OH asked for a seafood pizza, with extra prawns.

My pasta was more Al than Dente....... and the pizza! He got the extra prawns, but they still had their hats & coats on, and covered with melted cheese.

My Daughter brings well fired rolls from Edinburgh and I love deep fried Mars Bars when I go up to the Highlands.

My gran used to send me round to Stephens the local bakers in Rosyth every morning to get the morning rolls plus an unsliced loaf of plain bread all fresh from the oven :-)

Stephens also make one of my all time favourites - their famous Steak Bridie - alas you cannot buy them down here :-(

Well I spent a fab day in Scotland yesterday and it was hot hot hot :-D.......bit too hot for moving day but relaxed afterwards in the Meadows and licking an iced lolly.....hundreds of folk just lying about on the grass in the glorious sun :-D

Mau I know the Meadows well my Mum used to live quite nearby bet there are plenty of tourists now - coming up to the Festival.

OFTG forgot about the Bridies we used to have them for Sat lunch to save Mum cooking! Before we left Edin we used to live near a small bakery and they would bake rolls and bread and put them on a trolley? outside to cool so after midnight you could go and buy them so hot they burnt your fingers... There was a long stream of villagers standing in a queue - think that's why we still go to bed late ....Living in hope haha!!!!

Right Robert is that where you get the fried Mars must look out for them next time we are up...on second thoughts better not .... not too good for the figure! :-(

Lady Scozz that doesn't surprise me we went looking after a show for somewhere open and all we could get was a corner shop and ended up with a packet of biscs and crisps!!..... Seems strange for London when we were in Sydney (can't remember which part) the cafes etc were open all night :-D

There was a Bakers in Broughton Road area of Edinburgh where you could get hot rolls straight out of the oven at about midnight. We used to collect them on or way back from a night out. Very tasty.

It's OK George been down South for 39 yrs so when we go "home" I have difficulty sometimes understanding and keep saying "pardon" even though OH and I still have our Scot. accents but kids have broad Yorkshire! :-D
