I was reminded of some Scottish words we used to use when I was a child (I don't know if these words are still used)

I have never heard them since I was a child.
My grand children never said them but I may
teach my great grand daughters the words hehe :-)

I have never heard any of my children sing any of these wee songs/ditties either!
I would guess that the Bullying Campaign has a lot to do with this..... kids nowadays go about it in a far more subtle manner!

I haven't removed my bike joke, but it has been removed.

There you go........... a homophobic person ignored the warning there were risque jokes on this thread.... didn't like my joke (but the other risque jokes are still here!) and reported it.

I am now an official member of the RR club. It's taken 8 years to join the club!

Good timing, because GR have asked for a big increase in my subs, and I'm not buying.

Re Scottish words.......... a cousin (umpty times removed) lives in England (he was born in Scotland, his parents moved to England when he was about 2).... he teaches his daughter Scottish words. I would love to hear her! Four years old, English accent, except when she calls her playmates (who annoy her) YE WEE SCUNNER!!! rofl

Once upon a time........... OK, it's not a fairy story, but I was about 19, so it was a long time ago........

My uncle (my dad's sister's husband) said he'd like to get a table of friends & rellies together for his work's dance.

My cousin talked me into going, as he and his girlfriend didn't want to be the only people at a table of fogies. We were bored out of our minds; about 20 people at the table, all about my parents' age and 4 teenagers (me and the fella I was going out with at the time & cousin & his girlfriend).

Then! It was time for the caberet/floor show........ announcement made, there would be a display of Scottish country dancing. Oh Gawd, we thought (as we did at 19), this will be horrendous.

Music started......... nobody on the floor. Uncle ran up to our table........ "C'moan, get up!! Everybody's waitin' for ye"

What?

He "forgot" to tell us........ we were the caberet :-D

I danced with my cousin & we called his father every name under the sun!

At least we knew the dances! Do Scottish schoolchildren still get taught the dancing? We had lessons all year, to get ready for the Christmas party.

Funny thing is, when I went to my first "grown-up" ball........ I didn't know how to waltz. :-D

Yes Scozz, all kids ( that I know) still learn the Country Dances at school.
Kilts are stil the norm for School proms too.

Every wedding that I've been to lately was either a ful ceilidh or with a mix of modern.
Never, ever again will I partner a young lad in a Strip The Williow.

My girls went into Glasgow about new year time and there was ceildh dancing in George Square... they joined in

How is everyone doing today?
Glad you're staying Scozz... we would miss you too much

I'm off to Edinburgh tomorrow with OH for the Tattoo, staying overnight and will be going to some comedy stuff on Friday.
Will be back Friday night, but going over to Auld Reekie again on Sunday for more of the same. as the kids have booked more shows.

Two of my cousins were married in 1987, one of them had a ceilidh. One wedding was in late June, the other in early August.

We were invited to both the weddings, which we were looking forward to attending(we were living & working in Europe at the time).

Then we were transferred!! Had to leave Europe at the end of July, moved to the US. So we didn't get to either wedding.

A year or so before that OH had learned how to "Strip The Willow"........ and he kept saying he was looking forward to the wedding and Stripping the Widow :-D

Ceilidh weddings can be extremely wild.
