Thanks Jude. We have come down quite a bit from our asking price for them and hope that they'll come up a bit more and we can come down a bit more, and with luck we meet somewhere in the middle. The agents reckon it might go quiet for a week or two and then they will come back with a revised offer.

We're only moving because we feel we ought to be near to buses, shops etc. We're getting older and if the time comes when we can't drive we'll be in real trouble as we have to drive to get anywhere.

I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

Good luck with your move.

Vera

Hello SV.....some house here in our road have been up for over a yr, one possibly 16mths, but they have smaller gardens that back onto a sort of park, its used mainly by dog walkers, but kids do get in there during the holidays, so maybe thats a put off. Our garden s bigger than theirs and has fab views back and front, if it was'nt for the house we are after we would'nt move.

Re your house....if you can still afford to move and buy, then go for it, or compromise with them and add a few thousand and explain you don't have any choice??

All the bestes luck, l know how stressful it can be after selling our other house in Sussex 10 yrs ago.
Ours has been on themarket about a month, but we have been extremely lucky, right time etc:)
Take care

Hi Jude, I've just come back from holiday and read your thread with interest as our house is on the market.

Well done on getting the sale and purchase you wanted. I hope everything goes well for you.

Round here houses take on average 2 years to sell (one nearby has been on the market for six years!). Ours has been up for sale now for 9 weeks and I'm already feeling stressed out. We have had a few viewings and the feedback has been that everyone has loved the house but the garden is too big for most people these days. It's about half an acre. But one couple have been three times and have made a ridiculously low offer which we have turned down. They then made a "final" offer which was better but still low and we are now in a quandary whether to accept it or not.

Anyway I'm glad it's working out for you. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Gawd the phone has'nt stopped ringing, we just put in our offer, waiting for response, l think she'll say no cause vic is abit mean....also waiting for the surveyor to call, want that done asap. This house is abit different to the everyday type so it needs alot of looking into, we have done some research and it should be ok, but the survey is v/important.

Vic reckons we need a skip for my craft room stuff...yeh right, divorce first me thinks....

Check out the Darby & Jones link below......lol lol......not us thats for sure...LOL

The Nuttall Encyclopædia defined the phrase as "a married couple celebrated for their mutual attachment",[1] the Random House Dictionary as "a happily married couple who lead a placid, uneventful life." The Reader's Encyclopedia mentions the "loving, old-fashioned and virtuous" qualities of Darby and Joan. The term is also used disparagingly to describe younger people who are perceived to favour spending their evenings in or to follow pursuits seen as middle-aged.[citation needed] In England, clubs for senior citizens are often called Darby and Joan Clubs, a usage thought to originate from a club in Streatham founded in 1942.[2]
