Hi Jude

Glad you're now getting settled. It sounds a smashing place. I'm going to miss the wonderful views we had from our old house and walking through the fields etc. but we've gained in other ways. We can't go in to town without meeting someone we know, and friends can just call in without having to drive miles first.

The downside is that the quality of the fittings etc. isn't a patch on our old place. Everything I touch seems to fall to bits. So far two towel rings and a soap dish have come off the wall and a complete shower fitting and some outside solar lights have fallen to bits when I touched them. Good job OH is handy around the house.

And yes, you can borrow him any time you like. Just be prepared to be accused of moving all his tools when he can't find them and having to do the finding yourself. Oh, and a simple job will turn into a marathon task. Ask to have a picture hung and before you know it the house will be knee deep in dust because he thought the wall wasn't quite straight so he has half demolished it; and while doing that he thought a power point looked a bit dodgy so he's going to rewire the house etc. etc.

Am off now to look at steam mops - there is no way I am cleaning these acres of cream tiles on my hands and knees!

Hope you are in and comfy Jude, and that you too will soon feel like you have been there forever!

Hope you haven't lost too many things, I remember when I moved, it was a nightmare remembering where I had put things.

Good luck to you, Vic and Madoc, in your new abode
Don't forget the new address details etc when you have time.

Glad you are feeling more 'at home' now in your new home, Vera,, and hope you will manage to find a place for all the things you brought with you. I would be the same with all my pots and such - and still I get more plants lol You just can't leave them behind but I am sure they will be fine and you will be able to sort out the garden in the spring.

Just enjoy having your things around you and the pleasure of discovering new friends and neighbours as you settle in ,

Best of luck

We moved in on 27th as planned but have been having endless broadband problems which meant hours on the phone to the ISP and a longish visit from a BT engineer. We eventually got online yesterday.

We arrived to find a bill from British Gas for £125 for the month BEFORE the house became ours, when it was in fact empty!! More endless phone calls to sort that. Then my standard size dishwasher didn't fit into the standard size hole under the work surface so OH spent a couple of days practically rebuilding the kitchen.

After that we went away for 5 days on a break that was arranged before we sold our house. We enjoyed the break but then had to come back to the rest of the unpacking. Today is the first day that I've felt the house is our home, though we still have a garage half full of boxes to unpack and a tiny garden covered in all the large pots of plants I brought with me in the hope I could find somewhere for them to go.

In spite of all my moaning I think we are going to be comfortable and happy here. I hope you are feeling just as happy in your new home Jude and that all is still going well for you.

Vera

PS Re: your post of 29th Sept BC, you are definitely invited to my housewarming party. Just make sure you bring something alcoholic and your dancing shoes.

Hello Vera....hopefully you are in your new home now?? oh l do hope so, fancy being all packed and still not 100% sure whats happening.....your hair could have gone white...lol

We're off tomorrow. l'm as good as packed just the few things we are using now and to hoover behind furniture as it goes, a few legs to be unscrewed, one bed to be dismantled...son will do that this evening when he arrives....OUR PROBLEM will be if the furniture won't go through the blinky door, also the angle of the bedroom doors. Builder had to remove glass from window to get the new cooker in the other day, but we can't remove bedroom doors now!!
When the lady moved from there a neighbour had to saw the legs off 2 gorgeous leather chairs.

Anyways hope all went well for you Vera:)

Photo's are on blog now....:)

Thanks Uzzi.

I'm feeling a lot calmer now as we heard about an hour ago that we can complete tomorrow so our move is on.

OH will be disconnecting the computer shortly so I will probably be offline for a few days. Hopefully when I get back on you'll be settled in your new home Jude. Good luck.

Thank you BC

The latest is that our buyer's mortgage company, having had everything they needed for weeks, two days before the move have decided to query the fact that there is a slightly different address on the original deeds and the buyer's mortgage application. There's a very simple explanation - the Post Office changed their system some 15 or so years ago and put us in a different post code area; but all these queries are causing more delays so WE STILL HAVEN'T EXCHANGED. Help!!

Three very nice men from the removal company arrived today and packed up my home so if we don't go on Friday I will be stuck here with one change of clothing, a few bits of crockery and next to no food. Our solicitor is still confident though. I wish I were! At least I can't go grey; I'm that already.

Hope things are going more smoothly for you Jude. Best of luck.

I agree with you Jude - moving house is darned hard work.

All sorts packed up here and walls are bare. Washed behind fridge, freezer, washing machine and dishwasher but kitchen cupboards and floor still to be washed. The removal company are coming in tomorrow to pack up a lot of the stuff, ready to move Friday.

BUT, and it's a big BUT, we haven't exchanged yet! I'm getting panicky now. There was a doubt about whether our buyers would get their mortgage in time and then, to cap the lot, the vendor of the house we are buying lives in Spain and gave his solicitor here power of attorney over the sale. Knowing we were about to exchange, this wonderful man went to the Oval for the day to watch cricket and was not answering his mobile. If we can't move Friday we have to pay the removal company 60% of the cost, so we could stand to lose a fair bit of money.

Anyway, I am glad yours is going well, even if you are exhausted. I'll let you know how we get on.
