ooooooo now I shall stick my head on the block here and say that when free school milk was introduced it was a necessity due to rationing and poor diet...1946 i believe?...by the 1970s..when i was receiving free school milk every day for no discernable reason...it had had it's day....folk in need were receiving benefit and food was much easier to come by.......*awaits the stoning*

Thanks, Errol.

Not reporting you, Roy, let people see your words and draw their own conclusions.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 9 Apr 2013 14:57

yes she was part of the team that invented it.
She was also known as the Milk Snatcher for abolishing free school milk when she was Education Secretary lol

Guinevere - absolutely no need to delete.

Guinevere, I will NOT delete my post, If as you say you found it insulting then report it

However you are correct in the statement "Intelligent men have always perceived that women were their intellectual equals" thats exactly why men have used religion and politics to enslave women for centuries

I'd heard that as well Janet. Though I am now guessing summer sales of said Ice cream will plummet in certain parts of the country.

I on the other hand shall shovel as much in as I can in tribute

*tongue in cheek post* (just for clarity :-D

Janet

Janet Report 9 Apr 2013 14:45

I heard on the radio, as I listen during the night to five live, that Margaret Thatcher was part of the team who invented soft ice-cream as in Mr Whippy. As no -one else has discussed this .....was I dreaming???-jl

Guinevere Report 9 Apr 2013 14:43

Sorry, Errol, but like I said, Roy opened the door with his insulting post that some of us could not let pass. If he deletes it I'll happily delete anything I have posted since.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 9 Apr 2013 14:42

To a woman women's rights are a direct reaction to the "perception of women" by less intelligent men, Roy. Intelligent men have always perceived that women were their intellectual equals.

I've done quite a lot else as a contribution to society but I'm not dragging it all out here. I'm not one for blowing my own trumpet. We all play a part and most of us for the good.

Could we rein (should that be reign lol) things in slightly please before they get out of hand and argumentative - not addressing anyone in particular!

Porkie_Pie

Porkie_Pie Report 9 Apr 2013 14:36

Guinevere, Please don't imply that I was talking about womens rights as you appear to be saying,

Womens rights are not the same thing as the "perception of women"

If you participated in and campaigned for women's rights then good on you

Island, Whose shoes have you walked in Roy???

I have played my part in the defence of our country and our freedom

"You seem to be missing the FACTS of what has been posted"

What FACTS are you talking about? I read posts on hear where members have posted in relation to other women before Margaret Thatcher and have not disputed or said they where wrong or ill informed

Bit tasteless I know but I had thought, when we had a woman prime minister that VAT might have been taken off sanitary towels.

Sorry ...Deleted last post, it wouldn't do !

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 9 Apr 2013 14:33

Also splitting hairs.....Queen Elizabeth 1st inherited the throne from her Sister Queen Mary.......so she wasn't an original in any way.

Saying that...one thing I do agree with is that despite being the first UK Woman Prime Minister...one thing Mrs Thatcher wasn't was a feminist and she did nothing to promote the cause of women in higher places directly...though I suspect the fact that she made it to such a high position did inspire many to strive higher.

On the other side of the coin I don't think she tried ever to play on being a *weak and feeble woman* either. She took no note of her sex for good or bad.... It was something I liked about her.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 9 Apr 2013 14:32

She was "standing on the shoulders of giants".

Edit - a response to a now deleted post but I like it so I'm leaving it.

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 9 Apr 2013 14:27

Slightly off topic, but in relation to who did what for woman, we should never forget the efforts of Emily Pankhurst and the other women of the suffragette movement. Many were were imprisoned in appalling conditions and several were forced fed after they went on hunger strike.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 9 Apr 2013 14:26

Lynda, I did say the first Queen Elizabeth, although I can see it doesn't look very clear in the font GR use..

To split hairs Thatcher was elected by the Tory party - they choose the Tory leader and the electorate vote for a local MP. The Tories won a majority and Thatcher was elected. The Tory party also got rid of her, not the electorate.
