There has been a lot of good debate here, amongst the other stuff ;-), I've learnt quite a lot! Still not sure, from a personal point of view I don't really care, but it all seems like gross hypocrisy. If celibacy is a 'promise' rather than a strict requirement, in that there were and are married priests, I don't see why ALL priests should not have the option to be married if they choose. Is a married priest less effective, less well regarded, less godly?? The thing that sticks in my throat, however, is the notion that celibacy is 'better' than a loving, sexual union :-(. |
