No Geordie, ...I thought your post was homophobic, (not to say irrelevant), so I reported it.

I daresay GR will re-instate it if they see fit...but I will tell you straight that I found it offensive.

Homosexual couples can and do adopt children - so not "end of" at all.

Off to work now, so not ignoring anyone.

I sincerely hope he didn't say that

BarneyKent Report 5 Feb 2013 16:45

I am not homophobic but I cannot accept this. When my wife and I took our marriage vows the vicar plainly stated:

marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman........for the procreation of children........etc. etc.

Homosexual couples cannot reproduce. End of.

They should be happy to stay in a civil union which was designed to cater for their requirements.

John are you saying that no one who definitely cannot bear children should marry in church?

Rambling

Rambling Report 5 Feb 2013 16:38

Island I take your point, but think it's probably as relevant as saying ...how many heterosexuals do you know personally and do they all have the same view on marriage as an institution?

I imagine the answers will be as varied in any sample of "100 gay people said" as they would be "100 straight people said" or "100 churchgoers said" ?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 5 Feb 2013 16:37

John, you completely missed the point.

A Mosque is not part of the "Established Church"

The Church of England/Wales is the established church of the country and obligated to marry qualifying couples whether they want to or not. As it happens many vicars want to be able to marry gay couples but the legislation forbids it for some reason best know to Cameron and his pals.

If it becomes law that gay couples can marry, then my view is that they should be able to marry in the established church. Or the C of E should be disestablished.

JustJohn Report 5 Feb 2013 16:33

:-D :-D :-D GP.

That is the problem in a nutshell. Any religious marriage (whether Jewish, Christian or Muslim) is for the procreation of children.

Not that every religious marriage is blessed with children. They may be well past age (like Abraham and Sarah). But that is what is prayed for in the ceremony.

Are any of you gay? No need to answer of course but I hear very different views from gay friends.
Just saying :-)

Don't really want to commit myself on this subject but I was
always led to believe it was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

I would say it's every person's right to be married in the established church, if they so choose.

It is if you are not divorced and heterosexual, currently, I'd like to see that extended to include couples of the same sex, as would many C of E vicars.

It's daft to say that discussing religion is muddying the issues - it's religious people who are objecting to it and using religion as their reason.

In Spain, both gay & heterosexual couple can either marry or have a civil partnership although I donĀ“t know where the church stands on gay couples marrying in church.

The trouble is John that different sex couples can't have civil partnerships.

As Sir Hugh Walpole said:-

The most wonderful of all things in life, I believe, is the discovery of another human being with whom one's relationship has a glowing depth, beauty, and joy as the years increase. This inner progressiveness of love between two human beings is a most marvelous thing, it cannot be found by looking for it or by passionately wishing for it. It is a sort of Divine accident.

I don't now what all the fuss is about. I have always been puzzled about the popularity of marriage and the point of it all be it different sex, same sex, weird sex, etc etc Why don't folks just have great parties (you could get to wear your outfit, Sueping :-D) to celebrate their commitment to each other instead of angsting over pieces of paper and legalities.. :-D
