I have no strong views on gay marriage, one way or the other, except to say that if two people are committed to each other in a relationship, of any sexual orientation, and are also regular church goers with a belief in their faith, then it follows that they would want a church marriage. I see nothing wrong with that.

Where I would consider it wrong, is like some heterosexual couples who have no religious conviction, and not church goers, but want the ritual and ceremony of a church marriage for appearences sake, never to set foot in church again.

I have worked with many gay people, and become friends with some. I've laughed at some of the comments on the thread, particularly when someone thought to be gay had become the latest fashion statement., or words to that effect.

As I understand it, to be gay is not a lifestyle choice. You either are, or you're not.
I don't think anyone wakes up one day and decides to be gay, it's all in the genes, like black, blond, or red hair - you are what you are.
I have more than once seen the profound despair of a young man who realises that he is gay, rejected by many, and driven to suicide. That is not right, and the sooner the neanderthal and bigoted members of society accept that gay people are no different to anyone else except in their sexual orientation, the sooner gay people will be accepted as equals, with equal expectations.

Not all gay men are into soft furnishings, and pink fluffy cushions. Not all are obviousy camp. Like heterosexual men they come in all guises. Armed Forces, bricklayers, butchers, bakers and candle stick makers.
Not all gay women chomp about in khaki shorts and Doc Martins, or brogues and cropped haircuts.

For what it's worth, that's my take on things.

Tesco? The name first apppeared in 1923 when a young Jewish market trader (Jacob Cohen) bought some tea from an importer called T.E. Stockwell.

They packaged it up as "Tesco Tea" - TES from Stockwell's initials and "CO" from Jacob's surname. It was sold from the six market stalls that Jacob owned (he was Jewish so did not trade on a Saturday market in London). It cost 10d a packet (and most teas like Liptons were 1/6d then - so it flew out.

And when Cohen opened his first lock up shop in 1930 he again used Tesco above the door (please see continuation on Page 964 of this thread)
