A local school used to have a flock of gulls swoop down on to the playground after Break. It looked like an Alfred Hitchcock scene from 'The Birds' :-0

I can see the sea from the front of my house with windmills on the horizon and the odd boat
.I get a lot of herring gulls, who dirty my clean windows....they are a nuisance can hear them in a morning on my roof....and I have to watch out that they don't steal the food I put out for the birds on the bird table.
I have seeds etc they can't get at in the feeders, but they sit on my garage roof waiting to swoop.

No seagulls here this morning yet, but pigeons, the other day we had
some geese going over.

Bet you don't know which way to turn this morning Mr. Cocoa - google, wiki, dictionary, GR Chat and so on - far too much excitement. Calm down dear ;-)

I'm moving to Wales - 35 C is positively scorching - about 95 F. I wonder if they have one of those micro climates there?

:-S :-S :-S :-S I am aware it's ben fatto - you were not, and that is why I corrected you - see what I mean about being a twit

JustJohn Report 4 Feb 2013 10:39

AnnC "Well done" in Italian in ben fatto (sorry to have to teach)

Why do you have to be so nauseating when I have already admitted Island knows her birds better than me. Bow means lean forward modestly - not bow wow :-(

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 4 Feb 2013 10:34

do you always have to be so nauseating - why oh why do you always sound as if you are teaching us something we didn't already know - you are forever elaborating and quite frankly you usually make yourself look even more of a twit

eg - on the rugby thread - ben fato insted of ben fatto

It says gulls OR seagulls in dictionary for Latin species Laridae. We (probably incorrectly) tend to call all Laridae seagulls. I bow to your expertise and have learned something this morning.

Well said, Island. There is always one, isn't there, and in the case of this Chat Board, it is always the same person.

I wouldn't dream of attempting to change anyone John.
How about bowing to anothers area of expertise, just out of respect, instead of trying to get one over on others the whole time?

The top of the garden fence, part of next door's extension, the roof of a house which is 'round the corner' and a vapour trail in the blue sky; there are also has a few high clouds.

If I turn round to look out of the patio door, then our garden (obviously) and behind that, a flint faced farm house dating to a least 1590. The decorative chimney pots are one reason why we bought this home - something interesting to look at when washing up!

Island, there seems to be a problem here with Laridae - otherwise known in English language as seagulls.

What about:
"The Seagull" by Anton Chekhov
"The Seagull" - opera by Thomas Pasatieri
Band "Flock of Seagulls"
Operation Seagull in WW2
Seagull Rock off Tasmania

I have called most Laridae "seagulls" all my life. Suspect others have also. Technically, you are correct. But you won't change us easily :-) ;-)

windows too dirty - can't see much :-D :-D

from upstairs however I can see Caerphilly mountain with the radar station on the top - when I was growing up, for the first nineteen years - I could see the radar station from the other side of the mountain!!

If I stand on a chair I can see Castell Coch :-D

They are not seagulls John!

Oops. Think I made a mistake, Scozz. Blame old age. It is never that hot down here.

I meant to put 35C :-D :-D ;-)

Think Pacific sounds even more attractive a view than a slight glimpse of the Bristol Channel several miles and half an hours drive away :-D But we do get seagulls up here, particularly when the bin men don't collect our rubbish.

Island

Island Report 4 Feb 2013 09:31

There's no such thing as a seagull!

Although some gulls live on the coast you don't have to be there to see them.

:-)

The window of the study (where the computer is) I can see a bit of the front garden, lawn, tree ferns & various other plants.

The back of our house faces the ocean........ we have a glimpse of the Pacific, lots of green between us & the sea (often see whales during migrating season).

John ~ I had no idea that you got those temperatures in Wales lolol 45C? :-D

Guinevere Report 4 Feb 2013 09:27

Squrrels on the bird feeders and horses trotting around the fields over the back.

And birds waiting for their turn.
