On a similar, earlier mentioned part of this thread, the retentive journalist, R Lewis (not a relation of the bad Bard) mentioned in his mythical meanderings, that the Welsh had no literary history as, for example quote Shakespear unquote. Hmmm, being a dim South Wallian with an obviously limited education then, he's never heard of the works of Taleisin ((prob couldn't pronounce the name anyway....)) - a bit before Shakers (or was it Bacon, I get confused?).

Sue - you're so right. I've enjoyed (and learned from) so many posts on this thread about Wales and the Welsh language, something I knew little about previously. One of my closest friends is of Welsh parentage - her maiden name was Maurice, which I gather is quite an unusual name in Wales and she's found it hard to track down her Welsh rellies because of that. Wish she'd join GR and give her input to this thread - she'd add quite a sparkle, having a great soh. I must find out where her parents lived in Wales (I only know their names as Ada and Taffy!)

It would be very difficult to extricate me from sarcasm, Gwynne. Sorry if it offends, but it is part of me. Like me or loathe me :-S
