MrD Please don't say the Labour Party and Plaid are left wing round this neck of woods. There is a village in the Rhondda (Maerdy) nicknamed Little Moscow. Now I can't see George Thomas or Neil Kinnock being a big fan of Marx and Engels - but many of the residents of Maerdy, and other villages round here, would line up behind them.

AnnC You should get out more. I reckon where you live, that 13% for independence would line up quite well. Perhaps not Whitchurch, but have a little walk round Pontcanna, Llandaff and some of the other smart suburbs of Cardiff at election time, and you will be surprised at number of Plaid posters in their mullioned and sashed windows. In my road of 70 houses, there are about 20 Labour posters and 4 Plaid posters at election time. The other 46 are more private about their opinions.

Ten years ago, if you were canvassing for Plaid in the valleys, you would get quite a bit of hostile treatment on the doorstep. That anti feeling has since changed quite dramatically. But 13% of electorate is a long way from a majority, so no worries about big changes immediately ahead. Unfortunately :-(

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt Brenda but I don't want to look at it again :-D

I think we should start a new politcal party in Wales.

We need to attract not only the floating voters but those that don't believe in using their vote. Don't want the Labour or Plaid voters, they can plow their own tedious farrow :-)

We need a catchy name
Emblem
Colour scheme
Song (I am loathe to call it a hymn)
Slogans (at least 2)

Oh and a few members with money to throw at it <3

So John you make statments like you being the only person in 50 at work that wants independence based on the fact that you have never talked about it with them. lololololololol

If Wales becomes independant does that mean that New South Wales will also have to break away from Australia and become a state of Wales :-0 :-0

John, I'm afraid the Labour party, old or new, is actually 'Left Wing' - basically out and out supporters of Socialism ...... ask Marx, he'll tell you ! :-D :-D

Plaid are just as useless, and potentially far more radical. i.e. 'far left wing'.

IMOH - you can stick the pair of them where the sun don't shine.

:-P

Oh please don't got on about statistics again ,it's a load of bull which we can all pick out of the air. Sounds like a shite political party broadcast which a lot of us ( no that's not stats...just fact ) switch off at the mention of !

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 19 Jan 2013 21:45

well I have yet to meet a fellow Welsh person who wants independence - it's "separatist" by the way

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 19 Jan 2013 21:14

BK. You are obviously a government statistician in your "day job". Your grasp of statistical proabability would get you a job withe any Government department in E & W.

I have clearly said that 13% want independence - a bit less than in Scotland. That is based on 45 years of national and local elections and large polls. As you may guess, a poll of over 2 million is more reliable that a straw poll of 50 workmates.

I work in an area which is heavily Labour - Labour is one of the "right wing" parties round here. Labour have always been a Unionist party and people are very Unionist (tradition of men like Bevan, George Thomas, Callagham and Kinnock). Out of 50 at my works, I guess that I am the only seperatist. But I don't know as I have never asked them who they vote for and what they think about politics. Far more serious things on our minds - like how the Blues and Ospreys got on at rugby and the Bluebirds and Jacks at football :-D

John I would like to know where you get you're figures from? I find them so funny.
Why when you live breath & die for Wales have you not taught you're son to speak Welsh?
Out of 50 people you say you are the only person that wants independence, yet you state early on in this thread that a lot of welsh people want independence, I don't think 1 in 50 is a lot.
