No KenSE it's not. I have been a standard member since 2004 and, until I switched the auto-renew off last September my membership was continuous. I had previously been paying £9.95 per six months and it is now £7.96 per six months. I have never been offered twelve month membership (on auto-renew). There is no "standard" membership. It seems they do and charge what they want when they want. A complete shambles as is everything else on here in recent times :-(

5TH UPDATE

Sorry for delay but have had pseudomonas again and just beginning to brighten! My mail decided about 10 days ago to neither accept/send mail - son has sorted it out now.

Recvd on 31 Jan 2013 from GR -

'I am sorry that my last response was not satisfactory. I have now given you all the information I can regarding the change in renewal prices. All customer complaints or queries are replied to within 24 hours and I can assure you that none are ignored. We try and treat all members fairly and equally, and reward those who are loyal customers with the loyalty discount.

Kind Regards
Katie
Product Manager'

That would seem to be logical KenSE but judging by the posts I have seen on the two threads about this topic, I don´t trust them. I want it in black & white before I commit myself.

I'm on Auto renewal, just renewd @ £7.96 for 6 months. perhaps I ought to knock off the Auto renewal !
I'm sure they will 'remind ' me when it's due for expiry and may get a reduced offer ;-)

jax

jax Report 10 Feb 2013 01:21

I knew it was £7.96 for 6 months a couple of weeks ago when I clicked on the subscribe at the top of the screen....I did'nt realise mine was exclusive though :-)

Still undecided whether to renew or not when the time comes...still have until the 22nd plus the extra month of course to claim my 20% off

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 10 Feb 2013 11:19

I contacted genes and yes it looked like I might have to pay more so I cancelled auto pay.
The new price I was quoted in the reminder with a 20% discount was £7.96 the same as before, so I have renewed for 6 months again.
Certainly worth avoiding auto pay in my view, as it would be all too easy for a price hike to be applied.

Best wishes,
Mayfield

Just had a confirmation of my renewal. Oh joy :-D

Not sure what they meant by: "Don't be shy – send a message" :-S

i have just seen this thread and i have just had my membership renewed for the sum of £7.96 for a full year as a standard member :-) :-)

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 10 Feb 2013 19:03

Julia. I was asked for same as you. Good deal, I thought. Probably we got such a good deal because we are both lovely people who never cause any trouble on the boards :-D

Think I may just put my shyness to one side and post a message this evening ;-)

I await your post John :-D

Don't think GR hands out Brownie points, seems rather haphazard to me.

Your one of the lucky ones then like Julia.
Both members before me .

I must have come into the category when GR put the subs for a yr down to 6 months.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 11 Feb 2013 00:23

Sandie. It sees very strange the way they work out subs. I had read about these increases and was wondering how much they would slap me for.

Perhaps next year :-( :-) Will this do as my post tonight. Still a bit shy ;-)

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 11 Feb 2013 06:37

No Sandie...I have not been a member as long as John but longer than Julia...and they only offer me six months.

wisechild

wisechild Report 11 Feb 2013 07:22

Clutching at straws a bit here, but until about mid 2007, there was only a 12 month sub. Then the 6 months option was introduced.
Possibly the members who originally had 12 months membership (i.e. before mid 2007) are the ones who are now continuing on 12 months.
But who knows??? :-S :-S :-S :-S :-S

Thelma

Thelma Report 11 Feb 2013 11:46

Mine is due in the next few days and I have had the £7.96 E mail.
Will be very annoyed if is for only six months.
However at "subscribe" it does state 67p monthly.

wisechild

wisechild Report 11 Feb 2013 13:30

Thelma.
Just had an e mail from a very helpful person called Nia.
For those who have 12 months membership & whose sub is not increasing, you get 14 days notice.
For those whose sub is increasing its 28 days notice.
She has confirmed that I will continue 12 months membership at 67p per month.
Result!!!

HeyJudeB4Beatles

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 11 Feb 2013 13:59

none of which explains why I get six months membership.......because I have been a member since 2004

so if Wisechild is correct and the six months has only been since 2007 then why was an arbitrary decision made to put some people on six months and some on 12 months?

Auto renew off until I get update. If they hold it at £7.96 for six months I don't mind but I will ask the question as to why some members of less years membership get twelve months for that!

Quite a confusing issue about subs isn't it :-S

I have now changed from Auto renew !! I wonder what I will be offered to renew in July ?
