I did say, I dont care if they ban me....although what I said was'nt bad by any means

I have a month left, and am only still here now because I was given an extra months sub for helping when they were getting people who visited WDYTYA to post on the boards

They can stick their extra month where the sun dont shine for all I care... :-P

Before everybody disappears into the wild blue yonder, could somebody please PM me the name of any website which has a chatboard like this? I enjoy reading all the chat and occasionally adding to it. FB is not the same, just one on one. With this board a dozen or more people can be chatting together. I would hate to miss out on this social activity.

I don't think everybody will disappear Huia.

I agree with Huia on this - may not join in much but enjoy dipping in to the chat

It will be a pity if the upset over fees causes more people to leave. Many people who are unable to get out find this site easy to use as a chat board, maybe the powers that be don't like that but it does bring in fees and shouldn't be considered any less important than the genealogical side.

Well I received a reply from Katie (so she is still here) and will ignore first sentence thanking me for my concern and last parargraph which tells me how cheap they are.

"Renewal prices will continue to take place until everyone has moved onto the current price points. This process should be complete by April 2014. Please rest assured that we are not picking and choosing people to pay at different rates as the thread you have highlighted would suggest. There are a number of technical implications to changing the renewal price of each member which dictate when their renewal price will change, but everyone will be paying the same rate. The reason we have not announced the price increase is because it only effects those on old price points. Everyone effected will receive an email notification 28 days before and again 14 days before payment is taken. I realise you did not receive the 28 notification and I apologise for this error."

My reply -

"All that I wish to know (and other members) is how you pick the renewals. In the same week I renew and am charged higher rate - three others at least have been charged the lower rate.

There is nothing technical in that. Explain what the technical implications are please,
I am most interested as are your members. Your members are neither stupid nor thick and are tired of being fobbed off on various issues."

Thanks, Chris; some standard phrasing.

So everyone affected ...... etc by April next year.

The communication between the site's employees and its members leaves a lot to be desired.

- so the automatic acknowledgement replying system was confused.

judging by Katie´s reply it would seem that what I said a few posts ago is correct.
The amount you pay depends on who deals with the renewal.
Expecting my 28 days notice by the end of the week :-S

Lyndi Report 21 Jan 2013 16:53

Expecting my notice this week as well - be interested to see what it says. I know I didn't get the discount last year like so many others, and have been a member since 2003.

Hmmmmm, my tenth anniversary lol - is that worth a discount? :-D

Ann

I think quite a few people will actually be leaving ......... and by that I mean old timers.

What is there to keep us here?

It's now mainly the chats ........................ because there are fewer and fewer people asking for help .........

.... and many of those that do ask, do it in such a rude demanding way that I feel less and less inclined to help.

I'm most certainly in 2 minds as to whether I will renew when my sub becomes due in June ........ and the major decision will be is it worth the amount to chat.

for those asking ................

............ a very similar chat place is available on family tree forum, for free!

There are also help boards on there.

Not surprising that it is very similar to here, because the site was started by GR members in 2006.

I just use this as a chat board, and pay £7.96 for 6 months for the privilege.

I hope the peeps I chat to don't leave ! Have most peeps e.mail or addresses tho :)

R**tsweb used to have a chat board, not sure if they still do.

I haven't used it for years. Was funny one time (at least 8 years ago) ~ I was one of two people chatting, found out we were both in Oz, both in the same State........ and lived in the same suburb!

:-D

wisechild Report 22 Jan 2013 07:14

I think most of us realise that the fees would be increased fairly soon & don´t have a problem with paying a bit more.
I would have thought that we would have probably accepted a 10% rise with maybe a few grumbles, but with good grace IF we had been notified when the rise was decided & given a date from which it would be effective for ALL of us, not just the chosen few.
The fact that we are not all being treated the same is what is causeing most of the problems.
Come clean GR.
Tell us how much we will be paying and the date from which the rise is applicable & make sure that everyone pays the same amount(or cancels their membership, whichever they choose)

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 22 Jan 2013 13:03

Now wisechild - according to Katie there a number of techinical implications in changing the renewal price.

I have asked her what these are - perhaps all will be explained in her reply. Will be a change from gobble-de-guke.

wisechild

wisechild Report 22 Jan 2013 13:31

Sorry Chris.
I´m not technically minded so don´t understand what implications there could be.
When I worked for the Local Authority & there was a rent rise imminent, all tenants were informed several months before the changes too effect, how much their rent would be going up & from what date.
That never seemed to have any technical implications. The computer systems were just amended accordingly.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 22 Jan 2013 13:35

had my renewal notice recently - same as Sandie for me

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 22 Jan 2013 13:37

Wise child, I agree with you entirely - which is why I asked what the technical implications were?

As I said in the beginning GR change the goalposts to suit themselves. They also forget that the members have done all the work and carried out research for others for a number of years.

Like you I am not technically minded nor computer minded but they have stirred up a nest of worms by not using common sense. Perhaps there is some method in their madness, we shall have to wait and see.
