Good morning :-)

Due to the travel restrictions we have faced during the pandemic, many families are taking holidays in the UK. Resorts have been bursting at the seams and famous places have been crowded.

For those who haven’t been able to get away and who love visiting churches, this week, we’ll travel round our beautiful island and visit some of the tiniest and most interesting churches we have. Hop on board, today we are off to the Garden of England - Kent!

Arguably the most iconic of all the churches on Romney Marsh, St Thomas Becket sits alone in a field, surrounded by water courses and sheep.

Built in the C12th, it was restored in the C18th when the original timber building was encased in brick. Much of the original timber work can be seen inside the church, which also contains a seven-sided font and triple-decker pulpit.

Legend has it that St Thomas a Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, had the church built after he was rescued from one of the many ditches on the marsh by a farmer. He prayed for a miracle and just in time a farmer arrived to save him.

It was seen in the 2011 BBC adaptation of Great Expectations and the film of the same name in 2012.

There is a service at 10.00am on the 1st Sunday of each month.

The Collect (special prayer) for today:

Almighty God,
you have made us for yourself,
and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you:
pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself,
and so bring us at last to your heavenly city
where we shall see you face to face;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Good morning :-)

Glad you have managed a break Vera - it rather sounds as though you needed it. Hope all is well now.

Has anyone seen kandj around? I have messaged her a couple of times and they haven't been opened, which is very unusual. Hope she's okay.

Whichever way we turn, O God, there is Your face
in the light of the moon and patterns of stars,
in sacred mountain rifts and ancient groves,
in mighty seas and creatures of the deep.

Whichever way we turn, O God, there is Your face
in the light of eyes we love,
in the salt of tears we have tasted,
in weathered countenances east and west,
in the soft skin glow of the child everywhere.
Whichever way we turn, O God, there is Your face,
there is Your face
among us.

Some lovely poems and prayers this week Cynthia. Thank you. I particularly like "May you be known by love". You seem to find something new for us every week.

We have faced some problems over the last few weeks but, between hospital visits for OH, we managed to fit in a week's holiday in a self-catering cottage for which I am very thankful. It was a quiet break that we both needed.

I hope things are going well for you Tabitha and Kandj and anyone else who looks in. Take care and stay safe <3

Good morning :-)

Go peaceful
in gentleness
through the violence of these days.
Give freely.
Show tenderness
in all your ways.

Through darkness,
in troubled times
let holiness be your aim.
Seek wisdom.
Let faithfulness
burn like a flame.

God speed you!
God lead you,
and keep you wrapped around His heart!
May you be known by love.

Be righteous.
Speak truthfully
in a world of greed and lies.
Show kindness.
See everyone
through heaven’s eyes.

God hold you,
enfold you,
and keep you wrapped around His heart.
May you be known by love.

Morning Prayer of St Francis of Assisi (1182-1226)

Lord, help me to live this day, quietly, easily;
to lean on your great strength, trustfully, restfully;
to wait for the unfolding of your will, patiently, serenely;
to meet others, peacefully, joyfully;
to face tomorrow, confidently, courageously.

Amen.

The Longest Journey...
by Richard John Scarr

It's a long, long way to heaven.
A hard climb to journey's end.
But it's a road that each of us must take.
Though fraught with twists and bends.

And adding to our burden,
will be temptations on the way.
Whilst the bends grow ever steeper,
every time we go astray.

At times we'll journey forward.
just to find we are moving back.
Or going round in circles,
because we've wandered off the track.

It's a lonely road to heaven.
If we choose to walk alone.
But if we walk with Jesus Christ.
His steps will lead us home.

He will not smooth out our pathway.
For there are lessons to be learned.
But by walking at his elbow,
he will lead us through the turns.

It's a long long, road to heaven.
But we can, with dogged stride.
Climb until we reach the top.
With the good Lord at our side.

Father God,
Where I go today, I pray it be only in the path You have directed for me.

If I stumble today, I pray it only be into the deep waters of grace You have provided for me.

If I fall today, I pray that it only be into the arms of Jesus where I know I am held and loved.

No matter what comes my way and no matter where You lead me, I pray that my eyes will only be focused on You; my Rock and my Stay. Please, God, guide me today for I don’t know what the day may hold, but I do know that You are holding my day! Amen.

Good morning, Lord! Today's a new day, a chance for a new start. Yesterday is gone and with it any regrets, mistakes, or failures I may have experienced. It's a good day to be glad and give thanks, and I do, Lord. Thank you for today, a new opportunity to love, give, and be all that you want me to be. Amen.

what things they ought to do,
and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil them;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

It's going to be a wrench Tabitha, but I think you will have the resilience to cope with whatever comes your way. You may have to tread water for a short while but, hopefully, you will soon land on firm ground. <3

My Prayer For You

I thought of you so much today
I went to God in prayer.
To ask Him to watch over you
and show you that I care.

My prayer for you was not for rewards
ones that you can touch or feel.
But true rewards for happiness
that are so very real.

Like love and understanding
in all the things you do.
For guidance when you need it most
to see your troubles through.

I asked Him for good health for you
so your future could be bright.
And faith to accept life's challenges
with courage to do what's right.

I gave thanks to Him for granting my prayer
to bring you peace and love.
May you feel the warmth in your life
with Gods blessings from above

Thank you Cynthia - as always you say the right thing at the right time.

I have always been interested in the Pilgrim Fathers and my life seems to be taking another new turn in a new area of work.

Twenty-seven years ago I took voluntary redundancy when it was offered and left my company after 16 very happy years and spent 10 months on a training course for a new career. Just as the course was finishing a Job opened up in a big company and i started work there.

26 yeas later after a variety of roles I find myself leaving the company - i must admit I had in mind to stay there for 4 years more and retire - but that was not to be..

Sometimes our lives are not our own and I'm obviously being told to move on again..

In one way i look forward to pastures new - its the interview i don't look forward to. and looking for a new job aged 62. (well i will be next Friday - birthday meal out)

If the money was there and i didn't have a mortgage i could retire and start a university degree - which is what i would love to do, but we cant have everything we want..

So its back to searching the internet for jobs. You have always been there for me and still are.

Thank you again for saying the right thing at the right time and giving me the courage to know this is the right thing for me and I'm sure a door will open or a rainbow path will open up before me , and it will be what i need or where i'm needed to be.

Flu jabs next Saturday and booster covid jabs a week or so after so my text message said.. Never had so many jabs in one year.

Keep safe and well - Take care <3 <3 <3 <3

Dear Lord,

May Friday be a thoughtful day
When Your Spirit leads my prayer.
I trust each trouble large and small
With faith into Your care.
Let Friday always prompt my heart
To stand upon the truth.
Darkness has been overcome
The Earth belongs to You.
Amen

Good morning :-)

Certainly a new beginning is looming Tabitha and I hope and pray that you will soon find a new door to open. Hopefully, it will not take too long. Love and prayers.xx <3

On this day in 1620, one hundred Puritans boarded the ‘Mayflower’ bound for the New World. Known as the Pilgrim Fathers, they were unhappy with life in England - they viewed it as un-Godly and going from bad to worse. They believed that a new start in the New World was their only chance.

They eventually landed in New Plymouth and began to build the first house for common use. There is much more to read about these pilgrims.

As a deeply religious people, the Pilgrims undoubtedly prayed at the 1621 harvest feast. Their prayers were spontaneous, however, and the exact words not known. A typical prayer might be:

O Lord our God and heavenly Father, which of Thy unspeakable mercy towards us, hast provided meate and drinke for the nourishment of our weake bodies. Grant us peace to use them reverently, as from Thy hands, with thankful hearts: let Thy blessing rest upon these Thy good creatures, to our comfort and sustentation: and grant we humbly beseech Thee, good Lord, that as we doe hunger and thirst for this food of our bodies, so our soules may earnestly long after the food of eternal life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, Amen.

Hope everyone is keeping well. Sorry been so busy recently.

However all good thigns come to an end and my Contract will be out on 30 Sept and not being renewed - so its an end of a 26 year run with this company.

We were waiting to see if we could get an extension but its not to be. - so at least we know we have to look outside as not qualified for any of the internal jobs.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts earlier and I will hang on t them for my new search in the big bad world out side of a corporation giant.

As one door closes another opens and i am sure there are plans out there for me to walk a new path for the next 2 or 3 years, as it has been decreed its time to move out of my comfort zone.

I will keep in touch when i can and look in on you all.

Keep well and keep safe and if you have a spare thought to send up for me and my new adventure I would always be grateful.

As always you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Take care all. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

One pair of hands formed the mountains
One pair of hands formed the sea
One pair of hands made the sun and the moon
Every bird, every flower, every tree
One pair of hands formed the valleys
The ocean, the rivers and the sand
Those hands are so strong, so when life goes wrong
Put your faith in the one pair of hands

One pair of hands, healed the sick
One pair of hands raised the dead
One pair of hands calmed the ragging storm
And thousands of people were fed
One pair of hands said I love you
And those hands were nailed to a tree
Those hands are so strong, so when life goes wrong
Put your faith into one pair of hands

Those hands are so strong, so when life goes wrong
Put your faith into one pair of hands
Put your faith into one pair of hands
One pair of hands

Cause me to rest and not be stressed
as I go about my daily life.
