Good morning :-)

Whilst we are grateful for our homes - however humble - we must always be aware that there are those who are not as fortunate......

Heavenly Father
My neighbour has nowhere to call home: help me be aware.
My neighbour needs love and community: help me be active.
My neighbour is crying out for justice: help me be adamant
to see an end to homelessness. Amen.

Good morning :-)

I read within a poet’s book
A word that starred the page:
‘Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage!’

Yes, that is true; and something more
You’ll find, where’er you roam
That marble floors and gilded walls
Can never make a home.

But every house where Love abides,
And Friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home-sweet-home:
For there the heart can rest.

Good morning :-)

Our homes.
Lord, we are grateful for our homes. May they be havens of peace. The world around us can be stressful and high-pressured. We are surrounded by conflict and pressure but we pray that inside these walls, You will bring peace and comfort. Help us to rest in You. Amen

It’ll be going round and round my brain for a day or two now kandj, lol. That worship song is one of my favourites. I’ve been a bit grumpy for a couple of days so perhaps humming that song will lift my mood.

Thank you for the prayers this week Cynthia.

Hello all

The sun comes up it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again.
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
May I be singing till the evening comes.

This was the last worship song in church this morning and I'm still singing it even now!

Happy Sunday blessings to everyone today.

Good morning :-)

Collect (special prayer) for today
Lord of all life and power,
who through the mighty resurrection of your Son
overcame the old order of sin and death
to make all things new in him:
grant that we, being dead to sin
and alive to you in Jesus Christ,
may reign with him in glory;
to whom with you and the Holy Spirit
be praise and honour, glory and might,
now and in all eternity. Amen.

The Gospel reading is taken from John 14. "If you love me, you will keep my commandments".

Help me God, to remember to be kind and patient to the
people who love me, and to those who work with me too. Teach me to see all the beauty that I so often ignore, and to listen to the silent longing of my own soul. Just for today, help me, God, to remember You. Let this be a good day, God, full of joy and love. Amen

Good morning :-)

Sometimes, life can be a struggle. We find ourselves going round in circles trying to do too much. It may be that we are weighed down by anxiety and stress. Perhaps life is just a complete and utter shambles. Where do we turn? Who will help? Perhaps we should know better than to ask.

“Oh Lord, I come before you today seeking your strength and encouragement. I know that you are always with me, and I trust in your plan for my life. Help me to remember that I am never alone, and that you are always by my side to guide me through whatever challenges I may face. Give me the courage to face each day with hope and optimism, knowing that you are in control. Amen.”

Good morning.........are you all 'flagged' out after yesterday's excitement (sorry, couldn't resist it). :-D

The Collect (special prayer) for today

Almighty God,
who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ
have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life:
grant that, as by your grace going before us
you put into our minds good desires,
so by your continual help
we may bring them to good effect;
through Jesus Christ our risen Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, Amen

Today's Gospel is from John 14 1-14 where Jesus comforts his disciples.

Hello all

I'm watching the tv coverage from the Abbey.

I can remember the coronation of Queen Elizabeth and feel blessed to be around to watch this service.

God save King Charles.

Good morning :-)

A very special day indeed!

But first.............
Sheep were treated as a prized possession in Jesus’ day. You were counted a wealthy man if you owned large flocks because they provided meat, milk, and wool. And they produced offspring.
Shepherds made many sacrifices to make sure their flocks were protected. They knew it was their livelihood at stake.

How much more precious are we than smelly sheep?

Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us because He loved us so much. He died on a cross so we would live with Him forever.

Now can you see the significance of sheep in the Bible? It is because God views us as priceless.

Today is, of course, a very special day – a day of history – a day to remember.

Coronations are religious services rather than constitutional ceremonies. The coronation does not make Charles III King. That happened on the death of his mother on 8 September 2022 and his reign was formally inaugurated at the Accession Council held two days later. At his coronation, he will be anointed, consecrated and blessed, as well as crowned.

Majestic God,
whose reign knows no end,
whose throne is justice,
mercy and peace;
bless your servant
Charles our King,
that anointed by grace
he may serve us in your name
and humbly lead us
in your kingdom ways.
Amen.

Hello all

Another very interesting topic, thank you Cynthia.

I'm all ready and waiting for the Coronation and will be glued to the TV set tomorrow. Something good and positive to focus on instead of the many upsets and sadness that's around just now.

Good afternoon :-)

You will never see sheep carrying a pack on their back. Other animals are good for carrying things, but not sheep. They were not meant to carry a heavy load. In fact, they would be crushed under such a weighty burden.

This is why God compares us to sheep in the Bible.
We were not meant to carry our burdens. In fact, we are to give Him our heavy load so He can carry it for us.

“Cast your burdens on the Lord, and He will sustain you” (Psalm 55:22).

Good morning :-)

Gosh, haven't heard that hymn in a while kandj. Lovely memories. Thank you. <3

Sheep are emotional and recognize the Shepherd’s voice
This is where stupidity ends for shepherds and sheep in the Bible.
Sheep have a remarkable instinct for knowing the voice of their shepherd. Amazingly, they will fear a stranger’s voice and flee.

Since they are emotional, they also have the ability to build friendships with other sheep and stick up for each other when in a fight. They can also get anxious or distressed.

We can learn a lot from these animals. Perhaps we don’t know His voice because we aren’t communing with Him all day and all night as sheep do with their shepherd. However, we do have the ability to hear the Shepherd’s voice if we but stop and listen.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27 ).

Hello all

Cynthia, after reading today's post, the words of this old school hymn came into my head.

Loving shepherd of Thy sheep
Keep Thy lamb in safety keep.
Nothing can Thy power withstand;
None can pluck me from Thy hand.

Thinking of all who feel sad today. x

Good morning :-)

The Good Shepherd

Sheep can’t get up without help
Sometimes sheep turn over on their back (like a cockroach or turtle) with their legs flailing in the air. There is an old English shepherd’s term for this. It is called “cast down.”

A “cast” sheep is actually a pitiful sight. If the shepherd does not lift up the sheep and put it back on its feet, it will die. It is completely helpless to the prey around it when in this position. Furthermore, it could get left behind when the flock moves on.

How many times have we been “cast down” or flailing on our backs?

Many of us have relied on God to get us back on our feet again. Thank goodness He loves us enough to help us get right-sided. God compares us to sheep in the Bible for good reason. We are a mess without Him.

“He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young” (Isaiah 40:11 ESV).
