Hello all

I remember the church Walks of Witness and have very many happy memories.

How times change and we have to accept our limitations and give thanks always.

Remembering in prayer all who are struggling with ongoing ill health conditions. xx

Good morning :-)

For today:

I come before you O Lord
As the sun rises may your hope rise up in me.
As the birds sing may your love flow out of me.
As the light floods into this new day,
May your joy shine through me.
I come before you, O Lord
And drink in this moment of peace,
That I may carry something of your hope, love and joy
Today in my heart.

Amen.

Good morning :-)

The rain held off. The banners blew in the wind. The pavements were crowded. The
procession of witness was larger than ever. All in all, a very successful an impressive Walking Day. :-D

For today:

Lord, bless the week ahead.
May its challenges
not overwhelm us,
circumstances
not discourage us,
and in all things
may we remember
you are with us
in our journeying,
your love our fuel,
your word our guide,
today and always. Amen.

Good morning :-)

A busy for my church today. Just one service with Holy Baptism and then, this afternoon, its our annual Walking Day. Hope the rain holds off. :-D

The Collect (special prayer) for today:

Almighty and everlasting God,
you have given us your servants grace,
by the confession of a true faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity
and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity:
keep us steadfast in this faith,
that we may evermore be defended from all adversities;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The reading for today tells us of Jesus’ command to go into the world and baptise in the name of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

Good morning :-)

Something we can't avoid today.....the General Election.

Loving God,
Thank you for caring about how our country is run, and that we have the right to vote for our politicians and government.

But in the run-up to this general election there are so many policies to understand, and so many different points of view to consider.

Sometimes I wonder whether there's any point in voting, whether anyone cares what I think.

As I choose who I am going to vote for,
help me not to be cynical about politics and politicians,
help me to remember that my vote can make a difference,
and help me vote for those people who will protect the poor and vulnerable, and do all they can to make our nation a place of fairness and peace.

Because you call us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen.

Hello all

Sorry your husband has this new problem Cynthia. Hopefully it won't last too long.

I also wonder what each new day (and night) will bring sometimes but God is good
and we are given the strength to cope with everything that is thrown our way.

Remembering those who are grieving for loved ones and those who are worry about
family and friends injured in the terrorist attacks here and in Paris too. xxx

Good morning :-)

OH now has 'weeping leg'. It is not painful but the leg is heavily bandaged and he has to keep it raised as much as possible. I have 'weeping flaming Nora what next' syndrome! :-D

We are off to the doc for a blood test and the clinic for a look at the leg. Can't say we don't see life :-D

For today:

Come, O Spirit of God
Holy Spirit, I offer myself
to your work of healing, peace and reconciliation.
In my busy world, bless my silent moments.
In the stillness of my heart, may I find peace within myself,
peace with others, and peace with you. Amen.

Hello All

Amen to your prayer for Pentecost and our troubles Cynthia.

The church bells would please your little dog Pat being taken for an early walk.

We joined in with others at 11am this morning remembering the dead and injured from the terrorist attack in London All very alien to what we are used to in past times but sadly one wonders when it will all end? Thoughts and prayers to all who are affected.

Good morning :-)

Oh my! Pat and her bells........I love hearing about them :-D

A prayer which is suitable for this season of Pentecost and for the state of our troubled world.

Let us pray
that the Holy Spirit
may bring peace and unity to all mankind.

Almighty and ever-living God,
you fulfilled the Easter promise
by sending us your Holy Spirit.
May that Spirit unite the races and nations on earth
to proclaim your glory.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Remembering all those who have been involved in the recent attacks ......and giving thanks for our wonderful emergency services.

The bells - the bells. Awoke this morning to the cacophony of the local bells. It's Orthodox Whit Monday. First service 06.30 :-S Went back to sleep but at 07.30 the bells again for the end of the service :-S. Gave up then, dog got an early walk. :-)

Watched most of the show from Manchester last night. Nothing will be achieved by this slaughter. The IRA found that out.

Religious or not common sense should prevail.

My heart goes out to all those effected by these indiscriminate attacks. <3

Good morning :-)

Yesterday, was a special day – yes, we had a baptism, but even more important was the fact that yesterday was Pentecost – the ‘Birthday of the Church’. We enjoyed a wonderful service.

It is called the Church’s birthday because on that day, the Holy Spirit was sent and this was the start of the church’s mission to the world.

Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter and the name comes from the Greek word ‘pentekoste’ which means 50th.

A prayer to strengthen us in this troubled world of ours.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mould me, fill me, use me,
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

Good morning :-)

Good morning everyone......and more bad news to wake to sadly.

We pray for those who were killed or injured in this latest attack and for their families.

We thank God for our wonderful emergency services who responded so well and for the staff in the hospitals who will be caring for the injured.

Today is Sunday, always a special day for Christians and this morning we have the baptism of a little boy. We pray for this child as he begins his Christian journey, and for his parents and Godparent, that they may be true to the promises they are to make.

The Collect (special prayer) for today :

God, who as at this time
taught the hearts of your faithful people
by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit:
grant us by the same Spirit
to have a right judgement in all things
and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort;
through the merits of Christ Jesus our Saviour.

The reading for this morning tells the story of Pentecost – the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Hello all

The Christian thread was started by JJ, but credit must go to Cynthia for keeping this going for such a long time. My thanks to Cynthia for such interesting postings each day.

It is a beautiful morning. Blue skies, white fluffy clouds. Washing on the clothesline drying nicely. I have sat outside with a cuppa and felt the warm sunshine and am blessed and relaxed. A Robert Browning poem that my Mum used to say on occasions such as these came into my mind. I'd like to share this with you today.

The year's at the Spring,
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hill-side dew pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven --
All's right with the world.

Thoughts and prayers are with those who are in a dark hurtful place this morning xx

Good morning :-)

I don't think JJ reads this any more kandj.....in AnnC's thread about him a few weeks ago, he was surprised it was still running :-D I wish him well in his new role - he will certainly make his presence felt bless him. :-)

Bringing last Sunday’s sermon to a close, the vicar spoke to the parents of the infants who were to be baptised. She reminded them that the children were to be baptised into the Christian church and that they were making serious promises to God. What does this baptism mean to them? An excuse for a party? Extra presents at Christmas and birthdays? Or is this something we need to look at further? Do we all need to unpick this Christian faith of ours?

It is said we are a Christian country, but are we? If so, why aren’t churches more full than they are? Why do we send Christ-mas cards with ‘Season’s Greetings’ on them rather than a religious message? WHY? WHY? WHY?

If we want a Christian country, the parents need to be serious about the baptism – and we need to reclaim our faith. Jesus gave us just two commandments – Love God and Love your Neighbour. ‘When I needed a neighbour, were you there?’ This last week we have seen the worst and the best in people. We have seen true Christian actions no matter who did them – they are what Jesus said were necessary for salvation.

So, what are we going to do? Learn more about the truth of the faith or just carry on as we are?

Do you want a Christian country for your child or grandchildren – a country where we try to help each other following the commands of Jesus, or a country ruled by hate and fear?

I know what I want and I will work for it. Will you?

Grateful thanks to the vicar for such a thought provoking and prayerful sermon.
