Its good to hear that your brother is doing so well Vera, but also sending love and prayers on the death of your family member. <3


Last evening was quite a trial. My new hob is on order but, whilst cooking the evening meal, the oven stopped working. After some rather unholy words, I decided on an alternative meal and then, just testing it again, the oven was back on.

During this, I was looking for something in a cupboard, accidently knocked a jar out, and this promptly bounced onto the worktop and into the open bottle of olive oil. That, in its turn, poured all down the front of the dishwasher and formed a large puddle o the floor. I give up :-D

1. The longest book of the Bible is Psalms with 150 chapters, or psalms. It contains 43,743 words. The shortest book is 3 John with only 1 chapter and 299 words.

2. The longest verse in the Bible is Esther 8:9 with 90 words. The shortest verse is John 11:35 with only 2 words, “Jesus wept.”

3. There was a king named So, an altar named Ed and a man named Hen.

Thank you for your concern for my brother. It is much appreciated. We went to see him yesterday and stayed longer than I intended and I was concerned that we had tired him. However today he sent an email to say our visit had been a tonic and he had slept better last night, so I am pleased we went.

They say problems come in threes Cynthia so I reckon you are due some good luck now. :-)

Sadly we have also had a death in OH's family today. Tonight my thoughts are with her husband and sons, with Kandj's family and with everyone who is mourning the loss of a loved one.

The last few weeks have been a touch expensive in our household.....a dishwasher...(by choice)......then a new washing machine (after the old one died), and now I am having to buy a new gas hob due to an ignition fault on the old one....sigh. Such is life.............................

Vera, I hope that your brother continues to make a steady recovery following his operation and that he will be well looked after now he faces more treatment.

We are trying not to get too downhearted here as hubby elder brother is still in hospital. His family are waiting to meet with Social Worker regarding his future care.

Meanwhile hubby younger brother was taken into hospital at the weekend following a stroke. His brother-in-law's funeral is on Friday 13th. All very upsetting just now.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4 v 13) KJV.

Tuesday's bible facts :

1. The bible was written by about 40 men over a period of about 1600 years dating from 1500 BC to about 100 years after Christ. These men wrote this Scripture as they were given inspiration by God. (2 Timothy 3:16)

2. Bibliomancy is the practice by some people of opening the bible at random to be guided by whatever verse they see.

Bibles. Most of us have at least one bible in the house. The Bible is the most incredible book ever written despite the fact that it was written thousands of years ago, no other book can be compare to the Bible or even come close.

I have found some fascinating facts which I will share with you this week…… a mixture of interest and humour. Enjoy!

Monday’s facts.

1. The bible is considered to be the bestselling book of all time with estimated total sales of over 5 billion copies. It is available in 2454 different languages.

2. The Bible is the most shoplifted book in the world.

3. The Bible was Isaac Newton’s greatest passion, writing more about religion that about science and mathematics.

Love the story of all your bibles Vera........and I have to admit that my genealogical gene became curious over 'Linnet'. I looked at Freebmd and it is quite an unusual name with varied spellings - so not many of them. Maybe you will recognise the surnames?


For today:
Today we celebrate the baptism of two little girls – Quinn and Sophia. We pray that God will bless these children as they begin their Christian journey. We also as for God’s blessing on their parents and God-parents, that they may be true to the vows they are to take.


The Collect (special prayer) for today:

Almighty God,
you have made us for yourself,
and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you:
pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself,
and so bring us at last to your heavenly city
where we shall see you face to face;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

Thank you for the lists Cynthia. I am already wondering what you will come up with next week. I am full of admiration for the way you find something new every week.

We have been doing a bit of decorating in a spare bedroom and had emptied some bookshelves there. This afternoon I replaced the books. One shelf holds "religious" books and I spent an hour with some happy memories.

There was an illustrated children's bible that my brother, her godfather, bought my daughter when she was little. There was a bible with my father's name and the date 1926. He wasn't a religious man though I think he believed there was something "out there" and I didn't know he even had a bible until it was found in his possessions when he died. There was a bible that was a present when I was a bridesmaid, age 6, at my aunt's wedding and a hymn book bought by another aunt for Christmas when I was about 8.

There was also another bible that I have no recollection of ever receiving but it has a plate clearly inscribed with my name and the words "for keenness and perseverance". I can only imagine it was a Sunday School prize. Then there was a thin little book "The Christian Life" which was given to me by our local vicar on my confirmation in 1956.

We also have a Bible that belonged to OH's aunt. It has preprinted pages for her to record the names and marriages of her children and grandchildren but sadly she wasn't blessed with a family of her own and the pages are blank.

The biggest puzzle however is a rather battered Book of Common Prayer inscribed "Linnet from Joyce 1912". I know I have had it a very long time but I have no idea where it came from. In all my years of family research I haven't come across anyone of those names in any branch of the family. I suppose Linnet could be a nickname but who is she and how do I come to have her prayer book? I wonder if I will ever find out.

I had a very happy hour this afternoon thinking back over the church I had attended as a child, the Sunday School, the confirmation classes and the various people connected with them

To end our week of looking at lists…….we perhaps need to look at one of the most important lists of all….our prayer list.

A couple of ideas to help make this easier…..
We could pair certain days with certain categories.
• Monday: family
• Tuesday: friends
• Wednesday: church family
• Thursday: witnessing opportunities
• Friday: missions and missionaries
• Saturday: government and councils
• Sunday: anything we feel we have missed

We could also connect certain requests/people with specific actions.

• Pray for our neighbours when the postman calls
• Pray for those we will see at work or at the shops
• Pray for those with financial problems when we pay our bills
• Pray for our families as we sit down to family meals
• Pray for those who need to know God as we brush our teeth

The point is to establish a routine. Pick an activity (like going to sleep) or a time of day, and stick with it. Set an alarm if we need to.

Over the last few days we have looked at 'lists' of several types. Today we will look at a list of how we can affirm the children in our lives......



1) I think you’re fantastic!

3) Thanks for being such a great kid!

4) You make me smile.

5) I appreciate the young man (woman) you are becoming.

6) I like you.

7) Spending time with you reminds me of how special you are.

8) Would you like to go to the store with me? I like it when you come along.

9) You are an interesting person.

10) I like how your mind works.

My brother is recovering amazingly well from his operation but has today seen his surgeon who has told him there are other problems and he now faces months of treatment. He is meeting this news calmly and stoically.

Everyone has probably heard of a 'bucket list' consisting of things you would like to do before you die, but how about a spiritual bucket list.....?

• Take a risk to love – deeply, passionately, and unconditionally.

• Make sure your spouse, children, and/or other family know that you love them, by words and actions.

• Do whatever it takes to get out of debt and stay that way.

• Make sure that things are right between you and God, that Jesus is your Saviour.

• Forgive those who hurt you.

• Apologize to those you have harmed, and ask for their forgiveness.

• Talk to the people closest to you about Jesus.

Thank you everyone for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. Not good here since Joe's unexpected passing, we are awaiting news of Jack and dread the phone ringing.

Cynthia, you seem to be juggling the plates like me. We pray it can only improve. Now my washing machine isn't draining but has flooded the kitchen floor.. hmmmm!

Your today's posting really is how I am feeling right now... have you read my mind???

What a week! OH has had a tooth fall out - yes really. Our phone has problems. My hob is still not fixed - because the man couldn't reach me by phone, we have missed a hospital appointment because I got the day wrong......and the list goes on!

Another bad day for America.........

We pray for those who were killed or injured in the mass shooting in Las Vegas and for their families.

We feel helpless in the face of such tragedy where we can do nothing practical to help, so we ask God to surround the injured and their families with his loving arms and give them healing and strength.

We entrust the dead to his merciful love and justice, praying that he will uphold their families in their grief. Show us Lord, how we can help to make this world a better place. Amen.

3. Count my blessings

4. Listen to the Holy Spirit

5. Walk with God

Grateful for :

1. Early wake ups = children to love.

2. House to clean = safe place to live

3. Laundry = clothes to wear

4. Dishes to wash = food to eat

5. Crumbs under the table = family meals

6. Grocery shopping = £ to provide for us

7. Toilets to clean = indoor plumbing

8. Lots of noise = people in my life

9. Endless questions about homework = kids' brains growing

10. Sore and tired in bed = I'm still alive!
