Hello all

The funeral Director has just left and we are in pieces. Helen is still with me, although Martin and the grandchildren have returned to Durham. It seems so very unreal to be honest, even though I was cuddling my very precious husband as he was struggling to breathe but clearly he did know that I was with him. He is free from his years of suffering and now the pain has been transferred to me and our close family. With God's good grace, it can only get better.

Our thanks to Cynthia for her ongoing support and to everyone for all your prayers, and kind words which are adding to our tears. God bless each and everyone on you.

Good morning :-)

Vera, when I lead the baptism prep classes, I always say that the Christian faith is more than a picture postcard scene of a dear little baby laying in sweet smelling straw, surrounded by cute animals and adoring people. I remind them that this child grows up to be crucified on a cross.

How that piece you have given us goes along with that! It really brings home the reality behind the story of the magi. You can pick out the subtle references to the forthcoming events in the life of Christ. Thank you.

The story is out!
Jesus Christ, Light of the World has been born to dispel the darkness that covers its people. God’s glory appears in human form.
Life on earth will never be the same again!

Lord we thank you that you promised the possibility of making a fresh start at any time and not just as part of some half-considered new year resolutions.

Help those who have recently made important decisions in their lives to see them through.

Life is full of pressures which often pull and push us in directions we would, and should, not normally take.

Give us strength of purpose and faith in you to take decisions seriously, to un-derstand the consequences for others, as well as ourselves, and, always, to seek your guidance through prayer. Amen.

Keeping Kandj in my thoughts <3

At this time of year I always remember one of my favourite poems "The Journey of the Magi" by T S Eliot. I have probably mentioned it on here before. I was introduced to it by a teacher when I was 11 or 12 and I think it was the first time I realised that the Nativity and what followed wasn't all stars and angels and cuddly lambs.

I expect you know this poem but if you don't please read it. I would love to know what you think.

Good morning :-)

The Collect (special prayer) set for today

Gracious God, who by the leading of a star manifested
your only Son to the peoples of the earth;
mercifully grant that we who know you now by faith,
may at last behold your glory face to face;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The gospel set for today tells the age old story of the Three Kings.

We continue to hold our friend kandj in our prayers <3

Good morning. Our thoughts remain very much with kandj as she comes to terms with the loss of her beloved husband. We send our love and prayers to our friend. <3

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany.

The Christian festival of the Epiphany celebrates Jesus who is both the Son of God and a human being. In the Western church this is usually commemorated by remembering the journey of the wise men to worship the infant Christ. The Eastern Orthodox church celebrates the baptism of Jesus in the river Jordan.

God of all heaven and earth,
From the breath of your love came the creation of the world.
We are amazed at the vast beauty of the night sky and at the intimate nature of the love you have for us your children.

Be our daily star,
Guiding our lives to search for kingdom love.
May we always follow your light of truth in all that we do,
Forever trusting, hoping and believing in your word.
Lift our eyes tonight to see your eternal life shining brightly,
Leading us home. Amen.

Good morning.

I have only just seen the email which kandj sent me yesterday. Like you Vera, I feel so much for her and have admired her love, patience and commitment in caring for her beloved husband.

She is so very grateful for the love and support which she has received from her friends on here.

We remember, Lord, the slenderness of the thread which separates life from death, and the suddenness with which it can be broken.

Help us also to remember that on both sides of that division we are surrounded by your love.

Persuade our hearts that when our dear ones die neither we nor they are parted from you.

In you may we find our peace and in you be united with them in the glorious body of Christ, who has burst the bonds of death and is alive for evermore, our Saviour and theirs for ever and ever.

We send our love, prayers and heartfelt sympathy to our brave friend and may her husband rest in peace.

I have learnt from another thread the very sad news that Kandj’s husband passed away yesterday. I hope she and her family can find comfort in the knowledge that he would have died knowing how very much he was loved. No-one could have done more. I send my condolences and pray that her faith will sustain her through this difficult time.

I won’t pm her as I wouldn’t want to intrude while she is grieving, but if you are in touch Cynthia please tell her that she and her family are in my thoughts and prayers.

A possible New Year's resolution.......

Pray more and harder

Admit it or not, there are days when we pray just for the sake of not forgetting to thank the Lord for His blessings. However, our talk with God should be more meaningful than this. Prayer is our only line of communication to God, which means that we should take our time with it and make the most out of it too.

As long as we pour out our hearts and minds to the Lord, that makes a good prayer.

Love to all Cx :-)

Suggested New Year resolution No. 3

'Say grace before meals.'

Saying grace before meals reminds us that above all food is a gift. It’s a reminder that we are nourished and cared for by divine and human hands: and by the labour of bakers and bumblebees. It brings to mind that there is enough food for everyone in this world if it is managed correctly.

Just a simple ‘Thank you God for this food’ serves as a reminder of God’s goodness.

Suggested New Year resolution No. 2

Attend church regularly.

Why?

Because the bible instructs us to be in relationship with other believers. If we are part of Christ’s body, we need to fit into the body of believers.
The church is where we come together to encourage one another. God wants us in fellowship with other believers. There is no such thing as a Lone Ranger Christian.

You must be feeling very stressed and exhausted so thank you for taking the time to post Kandj. I hope this coming year is a better one and that your husband will start to recover very soon. You remain in our thoughts and prayers. <3

Hello all

Popping in to wish everyone a very Happy and Contented New Year in 2018.

Helen went back to Durham yesterday to join her little family for the new year, and will be back again this coming weekend. Her Dad still isn't very good, but we are taking each day as it comes and finding the spiritual strength to cope from the little chapel inside the hospital. An oasis of peace and quietness away from the busy ward.

Thank you for all your ongoing prayers and kind words, it's brought tears to my eyes. XX
