David ..............

where on earth did you get the idea that the Egyptians had a "relatively short pre-history"????

They had a very long history

Don't forget, many of the civilizations that existed before ours, whether that be the Egyptians, the Romans, the Celts, the Druids, or First Nations of many countries, knew a heck of a lot more than we do about the Equinox, the movements of the sun, moon and stars. Many of those peoples used to be called "savages".

Those "savages" knew about navigating across the Atlantic, the Pacific and other seas centuries before the white man knew how.

We're almost complete ignoramuses of many aspects ............. our civilization is still trying to work out how Stonehenge was built, as well as the Pyramids.

There is gold jewellry to be found in graves thousands of years old that cannot be reproduced by modern-day jewellers. I saw some of it in a museum in St Petersburg (back when it was still called Leningrad).

Rose, that video was titled Flight of Faith.
You may be able to find it in a better format :-D

Just a thought, if the Egyptians had a relatively
short pre-history, how would they have known of
the procession of the equinox ?

Nice to view the video of The Holy Land David, but only with the sound off, the script was a step too far for me :-)

I remember reading Erich Von Danikens "Chariots of the Gods" maybe when I was about 16? Many of his theories in that and other books were debunked. His honesty is also questioned,

see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_von_Däniken

I am happy to believe there may be aliens out there but they didn't build the pyramids that's certain.

I thank you for your post Vera :-D I'm mot an expert on anything, not even

Judaism and Christianity. Constantine gave the formerly illegal Christians several

locations, one of which became the Vatican. The brief video is of Via Dolorosa

Hallo David and everyone

I have just tried watching the YouTube video about the pyramids at Giza and I only got a very few minutes in before I decided the narrator, Erich von Daniken, was bending the facts to fit his theories. When he started mentioning Alien technology and extra terrestrial visitors I am afraid I gave up. However I did check up on him and on Gaia, the production company that made the video. His books all seem to revolve around the idea of aliens and he reckons he has proof that we are descendants of Galactic pioneers. Maybe he is right - who knows? - but the "proof" he is offering is not, in my view, proof in any accepted sense of the word.

David, this is one of several documentaries about the Great Pyramids and there are lots of books on the subject so look at several and compare them and then make up your own mind. You might find you agree with Erich von Daniken and that's fine. You will have made an informed choice. Just be aware that anyone can post anything on YouTube and be a little bit sceptical.

Lecture over :-D Please keep posting your ideas. You do make me think.

Something else that made me think recently was a visit to the Jersey War Tunnels. It's basically the story of the WW2 occupation of Jersey and there were a number of tales of people informing on their neighbours, for instance that they had a hidden radio, and stories of collaboration with the occupying forces for rewards such as extra food. It made me think about what I would do in that situation. If my children were starving would the mother in me collaborate in order to get food for them or would I stick to my beliefs and principles even though they were starving? What a dilemma. I didn't come to any decision :-S

So a special thought tonight for people who are still living in war zones and still starving.

Good afternoon <3 On Y**Tube there are several video of Jerusalem.

One follows the route of the last day of Jesus from his scourging

through the the site of his Crucifxion.

Rose ........

I hope you find it, because it is quite fascinating to read, and to see how just a little distance could separate the area where Jesus was according to the Bible and where people think it was.

Of course, this doesn't apply to major sites.

Rose ....

Yes, it is expensive. I've seen a copy of it, I'm not sure whether Roy lent it to OH or gave it to him, or whether we still have it somewhere in the house.

He has had the wildest experiences while doing both his scientific research in the field and following this hobby!

Would a library be likely to have a copy???

Sylvia, I went to look for the book, but out of my price range even if still available, pity because it sounds very interesting :-)

I came across this though, related to it, so someone appreciated it :-)

Wouldn't the problem of building a pyramid today be largely down to

a) having a quarry the appropriate size for the huge stones needed

and more importantly

b) " It's believed the great pyramid was built with the labour of 5,000, 20,000 or 100,000 people (depending on which expert is doing the estimate) over the course of 20 years or so."

and also that the craftsmanship needed has died out? When you look at old census records in the UK you see quite a substantial number of 'stone masons', there would be fewer today I think, aside from those with a real desire to train and work in that field and repair our old buildings.

David

David Report 29 Sep 2019 10:55

The video on the Pyramid is not my opinion, it's an alternative to so many available.
The purpose and method of their construction is beyond my comprehension,
especially as most modern builders say they couldn't replicate it.
Much of the genealogy of the OT is so difficult to comprehend, but it's all we have,
that or evolution.
In 2019 an incident reported in the newspapers is modified the next day, maybe the
location or characters. So if "news" can change so rapidly and soon become history,
what chance have of knowing the accuracy of the 6000 year old Pyramids ?

Good morning :-)

It sounds as though you have had a restful trip Sylvia and thank you for the synopsis - I had a look and found it a very interesting read.

It's interesting how this subject of how places change over time has come up now - I have been watching the news with Prince Harry walking along the same stretch of ground as his mother walked 22 years ago. Then it was a path through a minefield and now it is just a street in a small town.

You often see then/now photos of towns on FB and I find them fascinating. Even driving to town I try to imagine what the main road looked like a hundred years ago - with lots of small houses huddled along the sides or open spaces where there were once houses. Thanks for all that folks. :-D

It's Sunday again...…

The Collect (special prayer) for today :

God, who in generous mercy sent the Holy Spirit upon your Church
in the burning fire of your love:
grant that your people may be fervent in the fellowship
of the gospel that, always abiding in you, they may be found
steadfast in faith and active in service;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Gospel reading tells the story of the poor man Lazarus at the gate of the rich man.

David .............

what have you been watching now??

All the evidence is that the Great Pyramid of Giza was constructed between about 2580 to 2560 BC (using the old term for Before Christ). Another term used is that ALL the complex at Giza, including the Great Pyramid, was built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The Pharoah who was alive at that time was Khufu (also called Cheops).

Methusaleh had nothing to do with it ................... unless you wish to contradict all the scientific evidence and opinions of very well qualified Egyptologists!

The easiest place to read all anout the Giza complex is to go to Wikipedia, then to various other more scientific papers and books.

Good evening <3 Concerning the mystery that surrounds The Great Pyramid of Giza.

A part from the Kings and the Queens chambers are several skill-fully constructed

rooms detected by camera on robots. Far below the Pyramid is a lake of

clear water containing a sarcophagus. The narrator of the video says the Pyramid

was constructed by Enoch, Father of Methusela long before the Deluge.

Hi everyone

so pleasing to hear that everyone is doing well, and recovering from illnesses.

We've been away for a few days ................ travelling by train to Jasper and then another train to visit a niece who now lives in the the house that her parents built in the 1970s, having done massive renovations over the last 5 years thus almost completely changing it from "parents' house" to "their own house". Her mother was OH's sister who died 5½ years ago.

It was a very pleasant trip, and most restful because we didn't see the TV news or read a newspaper for 10 days ;-) . Such a rest from the British and US antics, and our own Federal election.

Having read through the last few pages, I would like to make the following comments, if I may.

1. Not much was actually written down during the time of Jesus ............ at least not that has been found and translated. Much of what was passed on was verbally, by story telling, as so few people could actually read. And that continued for several centuries until the ordinary person was able to read the Bible in their own language. So I personally think we have to be very careful in believing that all the stories are completely accurate.

EDIT:- I do not mean by this that it was deliberate, but something might be made simpler so that a completely uneducated person could understand .......... eg, the time line in which God made the world.

2. As a sort of indication of that, we have a Botanist friend who is a very strong Baptist. His "hobby" is to go to Israel and find the places mentioned in the Bible. He goes to the place that is now called a Biblical site, stands there, looks around, and sees if the general area fits the description as given in the Bible.

How many of you would be surprised to hear that many of the sites visited today as a place where Jesus spoke, or performed a miracle are actually NOT that place at all.

That is not to say that the places do not exist .............. but that the knowledge passed down has been corrupted slightly over time.

As an example of how our friend discovers this ............... there will be a site from which Jesus could see a hill straight ahead and another to the right, or a lake to the left. He goes to the place identified as that site ............. but he cannot see any of the other geographical features from it.

However, there will be a similar site a short distance away ............... half-a-mile, or a mile. When he goes to that place, and looks around, he can indeed see all the features mentioned in the Bible.

He wrote a book back in 2004 .............. Arise, Walk Through the Land, by Roy Turkington.

I see that it is available on Amazon for around $52.

This gives a synopsis of how he did what he did, and the problems they got into!
