@ Cynthia :-D :-D :-D :-D. It’s lovely to start the day with a smile. I have enjoyed reading the “short and sweet week” prayers and look forward to the coming week.

I have been thinking about the helter skelter in Norwich Cathedral and the mini golf in Rochester. I understand why the authorities are doing this but I do wonder if any of the people who enter the church to have a go on the attraction will be inspired to visit for a service and how will they assess the effectiveness of this type of outreach? Perhaps I am being old fashioned but I am uncomfortable with this. What do you think?

I do like making people laugh I must admit......not the slapstick kind of laughter but love the play on words type. I used to enjoy the two Ronnies for that reason. :-D :-D


As for the crazy golf etc....it's a NO from me. I think there is a time and a place. It smacks of desperation which, in my eyes, shows a lack of faith. I have read several times, that services such as choral evensong are making a big comeback - people are looking for that quiet, reflective but uplifting type of worship - if they want a helter skelter, they can go to Alton Towers. Here endeth the first lesson!! :-D

Ahem....I had better move on!

A newly ordained deacon gave us a sermon yesterday and it was well worth while listening to. He brought in the importance of our prayer lives and it made me think of the prayers of the saints, people whose lives have had a great Christian influence in the world.

Have you considered the laws of Physics at work in the human anatomy ?

Optics for our vision. Pneumatics at worl in our lungs for birth. Electricity at

work in our brain and heart. Accoustics at work in our hearing system.

Levers and pulleys at work in our skeleton and muscles. Hydraulics at work in

our kidneys and bladder. And when we compare our lungs and digestive

systen to the science of Chemistry, a Grand Designer at work.

That’s an interesting way of looking at the human body David. I had never thought of it like that.

Cynthia, your prayer today took me back to my schooldays when it was a “regular” at our morning assembly, and I also remembered that immediately upon joining the school we had to learn by heart 3 prayers. One was a prayer for peace which I still say, one was a prayer for the school and all I can remember of that is “Bless, O Lord, our school” and I can't remember what the other one was at all. I shall have to see if googling will help me find out or it will be nagging at me all day :-D

It's just might be that the ancients devised their Sciences of Physics and

Chemistry from observing the human anat omy.

He studied anatomy through disecting monkeys and pigs. Allegedly he did not
open a human cadever, yet he is attributed to having discovered the Pulmonary
System.

I can't say that I am acquainted with said gentleman David and I am glad that I have already had my breakfast :-0 ;-)


I have been a little late in catching up with the news and was horrified to read reports of the young policeman who was murdered on Thursday - just 4 weeks after his marriage. The grief caused to his young wife and family is unimaginable. We pray for them and for his friends and colleagues at this sad time.

It is often asked 'Why do bad things happen to good people?' This is one of the most difficult questions to answer but, as Christians, we believe that this life is not the end - there is so much more to come. The worst things happened to the best person - Jesus is no stranger to our pain.

Lord, we come to you with thoughts of care and concern for this young widow and all who loved Andrew. We ask that they may know that you love and care for them and that they will be strengthened by your grace. Give them courage as they face the days which lie ahead. May Andrew rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen.


To end our week of famous prayers - the most famous of them all - the prayer Jesus taught His disciples....
