Dear All

Hello

Hope you are all okay.

Very nice to see people popping in with their good wishes.
Always appreciated.

A simple prayer for this day:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.

Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Amen.

Taken from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, 1662.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take gentle care
Best wishes
Elizabeth,
xx

Good morning everyone and thank you so much for all the good wishes. As with others, I was thinking of and praying for kandj and others known to us who are going through difficult times at the moment. I do hope that the Easter Message has lifted them from despair and given them confidence to face the future.

First thing in the morning yesterday, I had a text message on my phone saying "He is Risen!" What a wonderful way to start the day :-)

Church was very busy and the atmosphere was happy and relaxed - such a change after the solemnities of the last few days.

My family came for lunch and it was rather like Christmas all over again - but better because there had been no commercial stress placed on us.

Our prayer for today:

In the glorious Easter story
A troubled world we find
Blessed reassurance
And enduring peace of mind.

For though we grow discouraged
In this world we're living in,
There is comfort just in knowing
God has triumphed over sin.

For our Saviour's Resurrection
Was Gods way of telling men
That in Christ we are eternal
And in Him we live again.

And to know life is unending
And God's love is endless, too,
Makes our daily tasks and burdens
So much easier to do.

For the blessed Easter story
Of Christ the living Lord,
Makes our earthly sorrow nothing
When compared with this reward.

and for the young at heart....:-)

Jelly Bean Prayer

RED is for the blood He gave.

GREEN is for the grass He made.

YELLOW is for the sun so bright.

ORANGE is for the edge of night.

BLACK is for the sins we made.

WHITE is for the grace He gave.

PURPLE is for His hour of sorrow.

PINK is for a new tomorrow.

A handful of jelly beans,
Colourful and sweet,
Is a prayer ... a promise,
A loved one’s treat!

May the joy of Christ's resurrection
Fill your heart and bless your life.

Good morning :-)

I don't know how many of you received Easter eggs on Sunday but I received one which was rather special and a type I have never seen before.

It was a gift from our close friend who is a Roman Catholic priest, and with whom we often have good inter-faith discussions.

On the outside of the box, the Easter story is told in a very short and easy to read way and ends by saying "Easter eggs are a reminder of this Good News. Eggs are a symbol of hope and new life. For some, eggs represent the stone that was rolled away from the tomb of Jesus".

Inside the box is the egg and an olive wood holding cross from the Holy Land.

How fantastic is that? :-)

Our prayer for today:

Lord God, as we wake,
we remember that this day is yours.
You bring to us the hope of each new day
and fresh opportunities to heal a broken world.
May we hear in many places your whisper,
inspiring us to pray and act
with the compassion of Jesus,
the light of the world,
in whose name we pray. Amen.

Lord God, as we go to sleep,
we remember that this night belongs to you.
We bring to you the joys of the day,
along with our tiredness,
our anxieties,
our concerns
and the regret of things left undone.
May we hear your whisper granting us peace
and a good night's rest;
through Christ, our risen light, we pray. Amen.

- Paul Hill. Inspired by Psalm 74:16

Good morning.... :-)

Today is known at St. George's Day so I have been looking around for some information on this Saint.

It appears he was born in Cappadocia, Turkey around the time of AD275, to a Christian family. His father was an officer in the army and his mother was from Palestine.

He joined the Roman Army when he was 17 and was soon known for his bravery.
He served under the pagan Emperor Diocletian, but he never forgot his Christian faith.

On one of his missions, it is thought that he came to England but then heard that the Emperor was putting Christians to death, so he returned to Rome to help save his fellow Christians.

He pleaded with the Emperor to spare their lives but to no avail. Eventually, he was arrested, tortured and put to death c 23rd April 303 AD.

The legend of the dragon comes from a story in Libya where a dragon was devouring people and attempting to eat the King's daughter. Eventually, George killed the dragon and over 20,000 people were baptised and George cut the head off the beast.

On this day, when our Prime Minister has urged us not to be afraid to say that England is a Christian country, I use this prayer (but was tempted to use the words of the hymn "Stand up, stand up for Jesus".)

Almighty God,
We have been taught by the legend of St George
to fight against dragons and to rescue the helpless.
Deliver us by the truth of the gospel
from that great dragon who leads the whole world astray.
Free us from our slavery to sin and death.
And grant that your light may dawn again on this nation of England.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen

Good morning :-)

I hope today is a good day for everyone - it's hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of April already.....!

Our prayer for today:

O God, we thank you for all those in whose words and
in whose writings your truth has come to us.
For the historians, the psalmists and the prophets,
who wrote the Old Testament;
For those who wrote the Gospels and the Letters
of the New Testament.
For all who in every generation
have taught and explained and expounded and
preached
the word of Scripture:
We thank you, O God.

Grant, O God, that no false teaching may ever have
any power to deceive us
or to seduce us from the truth.
Grant, O God, that we may never listen to any
teaching which would encourage us to think
sin less serious, vice more attractive,
Grant, O God, that we may never listen to any
teaching which would dethrone
Jesus Christ from the topmost place;
Grant, O God, that we may never listen to any
teaching
which for its own purposes perverts the truth.

O God, our Father, establish us immovably in the truth.
Give us minds which can see at once
the difference between the true and the false;
Make us able to test everything,
and to hold fast to that which is good;
Give us such a love of truth,
that no false thing may ever be able to lure us from it.
So grant that all our lives we may know, and love,
and live the truth; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Children are often considered to be 'the church of tomorrow'. However, children are, actually, part of the church today. Many churches have excellent facilities for young families with children and there is an immense amount of children's work going on at diocesan level throughout the country and throughout all denominations.

So, for today, a child's prayer:

Thanksgiving Prayer for Children

Lord, thank you for the flowers and thank you for the trees
Thank you for my special friends and all the fun they bring
Thank you for the food I eat and thank you for my drink
But most of all I thank you for the way you love me
Amen.

Have a good day everyone - still upholding kandj and those who are in any kind of need - in prayer. Cx :-)

BananaNana, Your link brought back memories for me. I can see myself as a little girl of about 6 sitting on the floor in our front room sobbing while all the rellies sang that goodbye song to my aunt, uncle and cousins who were leaving for Australia. What we didn't expect was that 5 months later they would be back! lol

Perhaps you'll come back another year. In the meantime, all the very best to you.

This little item is sent with love to all those who are in need of a kind word, deed or thought.... :-)

My name is Friendship Bear
and someone sent me to visit you!

I'm not a very fancy bear,
I'm rather plain and kind of small,
Even so ... someone who likes you
Said I should give you a call.

You can hide me under a pillow
Or set me on a shelf,
And when you feel discouraged,
I will do my best to help.

I'm sitting on my favourite blanket
That I snuggle when I'm sad,
It was a present from my Granny,
Made for days when things seemed bad.

My Granny always told me,
"Life is like this 'ol blanket,
‘Cause if you give the pieces to Jesus,
He'll make a perfect quilt."

Sometimes I don't see a pattern,
And sometimes He seems far away,
That is when I clutch my blanket,
And pray ... pray ... pray!

Though I don't have all the answers,
‘Cause I'm just a friendly bear,
I've been sent here on this mission
From someone who really cares.

So every time you see me,
Please remember this ...
The person who sent me to you,
Keeps you in their thoughts and prayers.

Good morning....:-)

Today is a day which carries several titles within the church as a whole.

It is known as 'Low Sunday' - the Sunday after Easter possibly to indicate the contrast between last week and this week.

Also, it is known as 'St. Thomas Sunday' - remembering when Christ appeared to the disciples after His Resurrection - and Thomas doubted.

An interesting term is 'Quasimodo Sunday' - taken from the introit to the Latin mass "Quasi modo geniti infantes, rationabile, sine dolo lac concupiscite" which is taken from 1 Peter 2:2.

It appears that, in the Victor Hugo novel, Quasimodo was found abandoned on the steps of the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Sunday after Easter.

The Collect for today:

Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins and to rise again for our justification: grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth; through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

We continue to pray for kandj and her husband and all those known to us who need our prayers. Cx :-)

Good morning.... :-)

I hope all is well with everyone today. kandj and her difficulties remain in our thoughts and prayers as do others known to us.

It's good to have friends..... :-)

Friendship is a Priceless Gift,
It cannot be bought or sold;
But its value is far greater,
Than a mountain made of Gold.

For gold is cold and lifeless,
It can neither see nor hear;
And in the time of trouble,
It is powerless to cheer.

It has no ears to listen,
Nor heart to understand.
It cannot bring you comfort,
Or reach out a helping hand.

So when you ask God for a gift,
Be thankful if He sends ...
Not diamonds, pearls or riches,
But the Love of Real True Friends.

Enjoy your day Cx :-)
