When i was having complications with my first pregnancy the hospital wouldn't even confirm to my Dad that I was even there...though in this case it was common knowledge..but all the more reason to be cautious surely?

Hey ho.. I'm loathe to hang draw and quarter the DJs...someone would've done it...because of the huge media interest if they hadn't......at best the hospital and security staff were naive...at worse.......negligent.

Anyhow..i'm off to bed now so nite all lol x

I'm not defending the Dj's - but they, too, were surprised when their call was put through - and I believe the security should have prevented that.

Here in Australia, there is widespread criticism of the two 'idiots' (I understand it was only the third day on the job for one of them) - and they have both been 'pulled from the airwaves' whilst further action is decided.

For what it is worth - there is no support forthcoming for them on this side of the world.

Poor woman, may she rest in peace. It's awful that she is no longer here to be with her family due to two idiots trying to score points for their job. The media yet again have a lot to answer for.

I really feel for all the people involved at the hospital & especially for the family of the poor woman who died.
I would have thought that a patient of Kate´s importance would almost certainly have had a private phone line through to her room where she could make & recieve calls from the family.......but not at 5.30 am. No one in their right mind would call a sick person at that time of the morning.
She was almost certainly contactable on a mobile.
The hospital really needs to take the blame for all this & review it´s procedures.

I wasn't offended Sue - just a bit touchy having read some rather scathing comments on another site.

The important thing is that this doesn't happen again and that the right people are held accountable.

Dreadful outcome to a stupid prank, which I thought at the time, wasn't even nearly funny, but I'm sure the DJ's who did it, feel devastated at what's happened, but cannot be blamed for the nurses death.
I've heard that the DJ's themselves have had awful remarks made about them on fb, so it could be said that those who do this are as bad as they are, who knows how they are feeling today? The station has suspended them.

Usually with suicide it isn't one event that triggers the act, it's an accumulation of things, but as Sue has said, we don't know what happened, so blaming anyone isn't helpful.

Indeed the security should have prevented that; it is my understanding that all calls to that hospital are routed through the police so, if my understanding is correct, something went very seriously wrong with that system.

Its always human nature to try to place blame on someone when a tragedy happens. We always try to say so and so should have happened, so and so should have been done and so on.

But as long as human beings run things, mistake will be made. This seems to be a collection of mistakes, but as so many point out, speculation just feeds on itself. We dont know what happened, no one does so trying to hang the DJ's, stupid as they may be, out to dry is a knee jerk reaction. They cocked up big style but let us wait and see what the public inquest reveals.

This nurses death is an absolute tragedy but to call for the blood of the DJs???
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and people are always full of what they would and wouldn't have done when they have the benefit of it.
Would I have found the prank funny if I was listening on the radio? No probably not but it was a prank, not a deliberate attempt to hurt or harm anyone,, as muffy said they had someone pretending to be a corgi for goodness sake.
They had no idea they would actually be put through.
And honestly without the benefit of hindsight would anyone have foretold such a consequence.
I am sure they feel bloody terrible about it and wish they could take it back and probably always will.
I have made heaps of mistakes in my life I just thank goodness that they haven't impacted anyone else , I can only imagine how awful it would feel if they had

I feel sorry for Catherine and William. Its all they need is having the pregnancy marred by this tragic event.

The radio station have done pranks before on air,,,,,,this was just another, only a step higher,,,,,they pulled it off......but I dont think for one second any idea entered their head all this would be the *suspected* result.They cant be held responsible for the outsome and they shouldnt be.

Had this tragic event not taken place,,,,,,,,,it would be seen as the best ever prank of 2012 and pats on backs.!

This event has more behind it than possible talk from those at high level.

Mind the old daily rags will have all the inside information...some even that hasnt been made public yet,,,,,but then what they dont know they will make up------next step will be a campsite outside the Bristol home. :-|

there must be more to this suicide than the prank call - this poor nurse must have already had things in her life which were troubling her and I feel this must have been "the last straw"

Poor Kate, she will already be emotional because of the pregnancy, she must feel awful. It is possible that she actually had had contact with the nurse concerned. Ane the poor children who have lost their Mum just before Christmas. A prank that went very badly wrong. But as Tania said, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

"unintended consequences" comes to mind-people do not think before they act.

I am reminded of a friend who at a dinner in an RAF mess had the chair pulled from under her as she sat down-it was meant to be funny but she spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair

anyone remember Candid Camera? how it was a top show and had people in fits of laughter and glued to their seats ,,,,,,,or Beale...all pranks........we've all laughed our selves silly.

It's irrelevant that they 'didn't expect to get put through' ,they set out to waste the time of professionals, caring for a sick woman at a very vulnerable time ( and other patients of course) ....how is that remotely 'funny'?

On news this morning, it said that the Samaritans believed hardly anyone committed suicide for just one thing. It is a string of events.

For those of us who have been close to actual or attempted suicides, I think this will be some comfort. And perhaps ring true.

If the person who has committed suicide leaves a note and says "Fred was responsible" or whatever, then that is some sort of closure. But when they leave no note, so many people that knew the person think it was their fault. And blame themselves for rest of life. When in reality they may not even have been on the mind of the suicide victim.

We can all talk about it till the cows come home but the poor woman is dead,what in my opinion needs to be looked at is "Why" a Hospital of that Calibre had no one manning the exchange or reception Desk during the night.? was it to Save Money or what? To my Knowledge ,Most private Hospitals have this facility.**M**.
