actually Brian it's the saying "You're alright" - you hear it so often - "Can I offer you a lift?" - "No, you're alright" never understand that

Why do people say "I'm all right" when you ask them if they want a drink, food etc..
What's wrong with "No thank you".
I'm asking them if they would like a drink, not enquiring about their health !

yes, we've been on a journey, a learning curve - we are so blessed!!!!

and as for the It Girl - aka Clara Bow, when I was a teenager an old man on the bus going to work said to me "gosh, you are the image of Clara Bow" never heard of her, so when I got home, asked Mum and she told me who she was - Hollywood never called though :-( :-( :-(

"On a journey" seems to be popular too. Drives me mad.

Was just going to add they don't catch a bus or car and then I've said "drives " me mad and I haven't been anywhere either

If you get my drift #####

John I personally do not remember the "IT" girl But I do remember Gin and "IT"

One that really really really bugs me to distraction and is so thoughtless and of no comfort to the bereaved ......

"""""""Oh dear I' m sorry to hear/read that,,,,,,,,,but they are in a better place,"

NO!,,,,,,,the better place for them would still have been with their loved ones.

Paula+ What is wrong with "it". You surely don't remember the "it" girl :-0 Yes, "it" is very American.

I used the phrase "from whence" cos I thought I heard it on University Challenge this week as "two words that mean the same thing so one word will do". Not sure about that.

Face? Bothered? I should cocoa. :-D

and why do people say "so I turned round and said.....", or "he turned round and said....." - they never turn round - what's that all about

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 4 Dec 2012 14:45

During the endless video clips of the X Factor wanabees I lost count of the number of times they said "and you know what" and "I've wanted this all my life".

'You know what I mean ' and 'Like' at the end of sentences drives me mad too.

Maybe I am just a grumpy old woman you know what I mean like :-D :-D

PollyinBrum

PollyinBrum Report 4 Dec 2012 14:44

John You are soooooooooooo funny. The word is clichés
it is a a noun meaning phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 4 Dec 2012 14:41

This takes me back to a time some years ago, a women came to my company to give a presentation during the introduction she said " We all must be on a level playing field" my brain just stopped listening as I tried to relate what she was saying to the topic of the presentaion. :-S :-S

Annx My Father used to buy the Readers Digest, I used to love looking at he words in the front of the book, I still do that when I pick up a copy.

My grandkids dont use "Wicked" anymore, it seem to have changed to "Cool" now.

They didn`t believe me that we used "Cool" in the 1950s not forgeting that ordinary normal folk at that time were looked upon as being "Square". :-D :-D :-D

yeh, like good, innit . :-D :-D :-D

Yet another thread about cliques:-( :-( :-( :-(

From whence did the idea for this thread originate. At the end of the day, it is no skin off my nose. RR seems to have become a very popular cliche with one viewer : ;-)

Chris, I AM trying to be funny, but.........
