Paula,
I take it I am 'some people'.
Your general observations on the deterioration of the English language are not the problem. Unfortunately the thread soon moved from 'in general' to 'other posters'.
I found Malcolms post offensive.

Totally agree with Sue. We have a wonderful laguage and it's a shame that some people don't value it.

The rules of grammar were invented to facilitate understanding and ease communication. Poor spelling and grammar makes it harder to understand what is written and very poor spelling and grammar means most people won't even try to understand it. Most people aim to be understood by those reading their words and good use of English helps with that.

There is the world of difference between a specific language disability and being careless. Mistakes can and do happen but some people don't seem to even try these days.

I'm not talking about GR particularly, before anyone has a hissy fit, I'm speaking in general.

I always thought it meant that. My cousin told me so, when I was a child, and she was a know-all.

My original comments were not aimed at any individual and certainly not anyone on this site. I only joined on Wednesday last week and new to posting messages on here. I was making a general observation on how the standard of the English language both written and spoken has deteriorated over recent years. This seems to have set a rather hostile reaction from some people who seem to have taken issue with my comments. I should have checked my message before posting it, but I did however correct my error as soon as I realised, which just goes to show we can all make mistakes. Sorry folks. I will do better next time.

Translation

Now then ! What's all this nonsense about ?

You all know that the English language is a corruption of many others.

I always thought that Gramma'r was what a Scotsman called his Fathers Mother or indeed his Mothers Mother.

Yes !

No matter how it's written communicating is the most important part of the action.

It makes me angry when journalists use incorrect English.

It is the tool of their trade and they are selling their finished product to millions of people. It is their duty to use English correctly.

Do you think it is ok to critiscise other posters and make condescending comments?
No. I don't think you do, but some on this thread aren't like you which is why I also took umbrage.
