"A very good friend of mine was his personal assistant in 1970's and flew over from his home in India for the funeral and gave interviews for television lauding Jimmy."

Just c&p'ing.

JustJohn Report 11 Oct 2012 12:02

He was the brother of Mahatma Gandhi, aivlyS His first name was Goosy Goosy :-D ;-)

Absolutely no intention of telling you. People on Jimmy's payroll were several, particularly in early days when he was running a successful club, DJ'ing all over the place and a major celebrity.

And you imply I am lying. I don't claim he was an assistant. I have clearly stated, and shared what I hope is of some interest to you. He deputised for him a few times. Will remove my original post immediately if you think I lied to you, and will insert "this post removed because Sylvia backwards believes John is a liar".

So who was the male you met in India John ..? you claim it was Jimmys personal assistant ?

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 11 Oct 2012 11:49

Is it not a bit sexist to suggest that personal assistants cannot be female. aivlyS?

My friend was a man and not therefore called Janet. I guess JS had quite an entourage and my friend was only an assistant in early days but kept in very close contact with Jim and family up right up to Jim's death.

His staff were very close and, as far as I know, extremely loyal. Janet Cope bears that out.

Well, the one thing we have in common on this site is we are all researchers. Just struck me at odds with news reports so I thought I'd check to see if I was mistaken as to the gender.

aivlyS

aivlyS Report 11 Oct 2012 11:42

So his personal assistant was female ? lol ..

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 11 Oct 2012 11:34

Just for reference:

The woman who worked as Sir Jimmy's personal assistant for 40 years said yesterday she would be shocked if the allegations were true.

Janet Cope believes his accusers were starstruck fantasists.

She said:'Some of his female fans were attracted to him like bees to a honey pot.'

Janet, now a 70-year-old widow, of Aylesbury, Bucks, added: 'I never had an inkling of him misbehaving or taking advantage of impressionable young girls.

'If there had been I would have seen it and tried to stop it. But if the documentary conclusively proves his guilt then I'd be really shocked.'

She insisted he would never have risked destroying his carefully cultivated public image.

'He was far too savvy, knowing how reputations like his could easily be trashed overnight.

'To my knowledge, he never once stepped out of line. 'I think I'd have known if he had.'

Some of our longstanding charitable institutions, and I can't think of which ones at the moment apart from the Tate Gallery, are founded on the backs of slaves.

This detracts in no way from the good they do and neither does it make sleavery any less abhorrent.

JustJohn Report 11 Oct 2012 11:28

The simple reason this has blown up in my face (not poor me, cos it really does not bother me at all) is that I posted about my friendship with a close ally of Jimmy Savile in his earlier days in show business.

I genuinely thought you would be interested and perhaps even sympathise with my predicament because I cannot see any way I can continue what was a nice friendship. Even if he told me he knew nothing about it, how could I believe him?

In no way was I trying to deviously say Jimmy was a saint. And I have been very shocked and upset by all these revelations, same as everybody else.

The Charities Commission can close and reopen other charities transferring any remaining funds to ones that do not bear his name by request I think.

The Uni can certainly rename any bursaries at will unless there was a legal clause in the gift that this could not be done! I don't think that would stand a cat in hells chance if legally challenged.

I don't think anyone is denying the money raised by him was amazing.

Not really the point of discussion here is it?

John, we have heard it all before, and in many forms.
Why mix threads. Why not keep your pontifiactions to each separate thread.
For someone who pretends to know everything about everything, yet know little about the BASIC judicial system of this country, I find very hard to swallow.
Give us all a rest.

Hayley No poor me at all. Was referring to a witch hunt against Savile. I have no idea whether Bridger is guilty or not of those 3 charges. And any speculation is stamped on (quite rightly).

But Savile is being treated quite differently bt the press and this Board than Bridger. Yet is entitled to fair play before we destroy his grave, close down his charities, strip him of his honours etc.

One rule for the living, one rule for the dead perhaps?

Guinevere Report 11 Oct 2012 11:19

The money is tainted but there's no reason why it shouldn't do some good, after the evil he did. I'd rather it went to support victimes of child abuse, though.

Innocent until proved guilty?

Proven guilty to me - enough women have told their stories for me to believe them.

The only question for me is who helped cover it up - they should be called to account as well.

JustJohn

JustJohn Report 11 Oct 2012 11:08

Well, Hayley, my initial thoughts were the same as his brother in law. But like many of us I have obviously had to change my stance as new allegations are made every day.

I now think therre should be investigations by police and BBC. But I also think he is innocent till proved guilty and speculation and media frenzy should be less. I certainly believe that it is hypocritical to flame me for asking why Bridger was not allowed to plead yesterday in Caernarfon Crown Court (a genuine question, as I know little about the legal process), and then come on this thread and join in a witch hunt.

What I feel about, for example, the £500,000 that his charity will give for University research is very mixed. I am very interested what others think about that before I make an opinion.

I see that the obnoxious Max Clifford crawled out from under his stone last night. No doubt thinking of his fees when 'representing' the views of his clients who may just be dragged into the unwanted limelight.

I agree Gwynn I was never a fan of his and I remember having this conversation on a thread on here about 6 years ago .

April Jones is a victim, Jimmy Savile isnt. I agree it isnt easy to find out your friend of 40ys is a sexual abuser and I am sure most innocent male friends will be scared of being tarred with the same brush.
