JustJohn Report 23 Oct 2012 11:33

aivlyS No, I did not report it. I was on holiday in Kerala 3 times on my own, and made lots of male "friends" who I had a meal and a drink with. Many were openly gay, and therefore very good company. Also, OH quite happy I went to India on own, but thought it better I stuck to befriending couples and men.

But now I think about these things, abuse is pretty common abroad. And I even think parents must cast a blind eye. A family earns about £5 a day in Kerala, and there is no safety net - no sick pay, no holiday pay, no welfare. And I assume these young boys can easily get £5 off Western visitors.

You would be doing more rr'ing that you see on these threads. And I truthfully have only retained details of one of these "friends". And he was Jimmy Savile's assistant and, if he was abusing anyone, it was certainly not obvious to me like it was with my other "friends".

Hope you reported it John.

JustJohn Report 23 Oct 2012 11:11

This horrible news does seem to be like an epidemic.

I keep wondering if this expression I heard a lot about in India - "having fun" - masked a lot of abuse. I know one chap was deliberately targetting very young boys (mainly Muslim boys aged 10-15). And another was having ayurvedic massages down the gym every night and asked me several times if I would also like to "have fun".

Probably I am very naive about all this, but there must have been a language that they all knew for abuse to occur on this scale. And it will be an international problem.

Sue, no need at all for this to be RR'd, in my view

As you have said, you have not named names, and from the information you have given, people can find that for themselves, if they are interested enough to want to

supercrutch Report 23 Oct 2012 10:56

In addition to all the BBC allegations I did a bit of googling this morning and found a heap of sites where this was being discussed and referrals to old reports.

Because of the Savile link a mass of famous names are allegedly implicated including MPs, judges, highly ranked police officers, media moguls etc., and persons who worked for the Royals.

If we were to assume that only 10% of these allegations have any basis in fact that does widen any possible enquiry with regard to Savile's history of abuse.

I do wonder if that would be welcomed? As far as I can tell the rug is almost mountainous with all the 'stuff' which has been brushed under it.

Would this country's powerful institutions use their influence and not offer full co-operation? I don't know.

Please don't RR this post, I haven't named anyone and the info is out there for anyone with a little tenacity to research.

It is just such a sad sorry state of affairs , let this be a lesson to people not to be quiet about things just because the people are highly thought of ..and to stop putting celebraties on a pedestal , and I think a lot more thought needs to be put into who gets a knighthood , just so shocking that so many people knew.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 23 Oct 2012 10:22

The Survivor's interview on last night's Panorama programme implied that there were at least 3 other abusers present in Savile's dressing room, including Gary Glitter.

The BBC did not act in their best interest by pulling the plug on the original Newsnight programme >pre-production<.
Yes, there would have been problems with their Christmas scheduling if it had been aired when originally planned. After all, it's all down to viewing numbers v production costs. Just consider the amount they would have already spent on the JS tribute programmes.

IMO, they could have completed the Newsnight programme and aired it in say February.

I have just heard an interview on Radio 5 live, with Paul Gambaccini, it suggested to me, that there is so much more to be revealed, he also said something that is another story in itself, and if that is proven then this whole sorry saga, will be more catastrophic, if that's possible.

The Leeds-based Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust and the Jimmy Savile Stoke Mandeville Hospital Trust are to close.

The money will be distributed to othe charities; the identity of those receiving money from the two charities would not be publicised and it would be up to each recipient to decide whether to make public any donation, bosses said.

well I hope the parents and doctor who its *alleged *have an illegal and dangerous abortion for £150 payment to an under age girl who stated was having JS baby are all still alive and face some serious questions if her story proves true..

Its all so serious now that it may never reach any conclusion to all these happenings........

~Lynda~ Report 19 Oct 2012 13:44

The Jimmy Saville saga is now a criminal inquiry, and there are also living people that require formal investigation.

The police said they are dealing with alleged abuse on an unprecedented scale.

I bet there are a lot of people afraid of who it will be at the door, when the bell rings next.

I just hope the news media don't jump to any wrong conclusions, if an innocent person is questioned, just because they knew Saville.

Thanks Joy, second article highlights the complications with the charities and their funds.

None of us have an answer do we? We can speculate, pontificate all we like it's down to the restrictions within the current law as to what can be done with charitable donations.
