Sylvia - sadly people just don't want to get involved whether they are celebrities or the person living next door. That is why we've become a society that abuses our children and our elderly - secrecy.

The punishment in rape/sexual abuse cases never seems to fit the crime IMO.

The way I see it is people turned a blind eye ..... shame on them they are just as bad .. they were only thinking of how speaking up would damage their celebrity lives ... utterly selfish ., as is anyone that ignores child abuse.

Is Islam and Christianity (and Judaism and other religions) so irrelevant to our lives today? They are all based on true unconditional love (agape) and filial (brotherly or sisterly) conditional love. Society today seems so intent on the lowest abasing forms of love (Greek - erotica).

I think this is something that would be beyond the wildest imaginings of most people. All little incidents that make up one awful,enormous whole.

Had I seen something untoward I would have first questioned my own interpretation of it and assumed I was wrong. Of course there might have been rumours but aren't there always? Rarely are they true.

No,if there was something going on, others would have seen and reported it,I wouldn't have been the first.Mustn't listen to rumours.

So,of course, when somebody did report, they were alone in doing so and, if things were that bad others would have said something.

Just had a quick look at history of rape.

It was a capital offence in 19th century. Yet male rape was not recognised in law till 1994. And compensation was not in law until 1988.

The judges distinguish levels of rape in their sentencing and Kenneth Clarke got into trouble with "rape is rape" supporters recently.

Whatever merits or not of differing views on severity and sentencing, 7 years for Rape and Attempted Murder seems derisory to me.

Stephen, as you say ,till it happens to you no one can imagine the long term impact on a persons life,and that includes family,it remains with the family for life also.......a shocking episode in your lives.

I think J S was a very clever man. He hoodwinked a lot of people. I was taken in by him, and just thought he was an eccentric who didn't want strong relationships with anyone other than the "Duchess".

Have been watching film of him as an old man and you can see his whole eye contact and body language is wrong. He is creepy - but probably still thought he was doing no harm.

Yes naughty were that indeed the case but you quite out of the blue claimed you had been trying to groom me which whether intended to be humourous or not, is certainly distasteful. It would have been slightly acceptable if there had been some sort of preamble leading up to it but no, nothing, and I found it very insulting and distasteful.

I don't give a flying wotsit about JS in India....did you know my late brother's death was commemorated by two school rooms for girls built, staffed and named after him in his honour for the work he did in the third world? No, because my post entitled 'why I am so proud' was before you launched yourself into chat.

Plus it has naff all to do the JS case HERE in the UK!!! and I only mention it as an example that some of us do know some facts about that country. Plus Kerala is named as one of the top 10 places to stay in India. You make it sound like some of the less salubrious attractions in Thailand!

BACK TO TOPIC...........................the PM who was protected from being exposed (no pun intended) during office was then heaved sideways and backwards as revelations of his penchant for young boys was leaked. It has now been alleged that JS procured the boys for him. That shocked me. If he could do that for the PM then he could certainly satisfy the 'needs' of others in high office. That gets me to the matter I alluded to earlier today.

It appears that JS was a significant figure in a paedophile ring. As he was working with so many public figures he was protected.

Make of that what you will. My own personal opinion is that it seems entirely plausible.
