I wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence Carol - sums it up in my opinion.

Just to add - I have a friend who works for, shall we say, a media organisation. She experienced inappropriate behaviour from a 'celebrity' who visited her place of work for an interview not long ago, which disgusted and shocked her.

It's still going on in this day and age.

The Met are now saying they have 340 potential lines of enquiry.

Solicitors are going to have a field day, I hope they don't prejudice the police work.

Should there be a time limit for suing somebody or some organisation? If not, should we all go back and think about bad sexual experiences and find out if the abuser has/had loads of money and then sue them?

Who will they sue? BBC? (that may reduce programme quality or more likely give an excuse for a hike in license fee) Savile charities? (then give their settlement back to similar charities)? Savile's family? (who may be completely exonerated in any inquiry).

I can see the need to put things to bed and recognise the wrong that Savile (and probably many more of our "heroes") has done. But it should be a moral crusade, a low cost crusade in my view. Note: I use the word crusade with a small "c" and have no intention of upsetting anyone of the Islamic faith.

I hate to see every solicitor from the "have you had an injury at work" brigade jumping on the bandwagon to make sure solicitors are not affected financially in the recession. In South Wales valleys, there are now 200 working coal miners and over 1,000 solicitors - tells a story.

Where did you get your stats from re the number of solicitors in the South Wales Valleys?

There are approximately 3600 in the whole of Wales according to the last survey. That figure includes conveyancing, will writing, investigative and the good old family solicitor in addition to the 'ambulance chasers'.

Solicitors usually congregate in areas of money!

Merlin and Sue The last point in my post was that there are very few people in the Valleys today making or producing things and very many in the service sector.

One mine has just recruited and there are a few open cast workings, so that number was about right. And I should imagine the population of the Swansea, Cardiff and Newport valleys is about 36% of Wales, so solicitors will be in proportion.

It was a guess on both counts, but not a bad one looking at Sue's figures. Pleased if that is the only thing you feel you need to pull me up on.

Don't assume I agree with your guess. If you had backed it with the equivalent of demographics from the ONS then I might have taken it seriously.

If you have to go back and think about them John, then they weren't that bad. Experiences like that live with you all the time.

Jill I agree with you. But we are in a silly age when we are getting like the USA. and turning to the courts for compo all the time.

There may be some who have had their lives badly affected by JS and deserve compensation.

Putting the record straight and being believed is one thing. Demanding damages looks to me like trying to grab money off a dead man's charities and family.

If Savile's illegal actions have blighted some people's lives and prevented them from living life to the full, then they are entitled to money from the creep, dead or not.

Who's to say they are less deserving than any charities founded by Savile as a screen for his actions?

Certainly not me.

well I've just returned from holidays but have been following this sickening story via the newspapers and on TV - seems appalling to me the number of people in "high" places who had knoiwledge of wht this pervert was up to yet did nothing bout it - Esther Rantzen for one - she was married to Desmond Wilcox at the time and having an affair with him or years befor they married and she admitted she had heard rumours - OK - they were "rumours" but considering the fact that she championed Childline why on earth didn't she press for some investigations to find out if these rumours were in fact true, after all she was an investigative journalist. And as to a time limit, in our area this year alone there have been a number of cases going back forty years where the pervert has been brought to justice and jailed

I have no doubt Saville had a vast fortune and this should be used to compensate the victims, not that money wil help them psychologically - the fact that his family complied so quickly with removing his headstone spoke volumes as far as I'm concerned - no "innocent until proved guilty" from them which tells me they knew and most probably members of his own family could have been victims too. Not that I'm apportioning any blame to his family, no doubt he kept them sweet with generous handouts, includng '"the Duchess" as he always referred to her - his mother!!

Just so glad I never asked him to fix anything for me - always thought he was repulsive and had more than one screw loose - he thought he was untouchable and I suppose he was to a degree - I hope they dig him up and either drop him in the North Sea or shove him in the landfill with his headstone

I think the majority of teenagers in the 60's were far from ignorant about the true facts of life, even more than the poor Biology teacher who had the unenviable task of teaching them.

I went to a co-ed Secondary School & though I did not take part many a practical demonstration happened behind the bike shed.........




I don't know what sort of school you went to but it certainly was not like that in mine......facts of life? no.....we were innocent school children and If something like that cropped up we would have been far too embarrassed to say anything to anyone.

Susan, it was a very good school, with high numbers of GCE passes each year. It was an almost new school when I went there in 1962, large airy class rooms, a science lab, large gymnasium, & a team of enthusiastic teachers. The students were encouraged to think for themselves, ask questions & discuss things.
The films & talk about the facts of life were when we were 12/13, boys & girls were separated for these as it was thought that it would encourage more open question & answer sessions.

I am sorry yours was not as forward thinking,

at 11/12/13/14/15. I knew that I could have gone to my parents had anything wrong been done to me ,,as i knew certain things were wrong for anyone to do,,,,,,,,and my parents would not have doubted me for a second I was telling the truth.

pity these young girls didnt have that relationship with their parent/s.

A WOMAN says she fell pregnant after Jimmy Savile raped her when she was a 16-year-old virgin.


The latest victim to come forward said she was then forced to have an illegal abortion.

She met Savile on his show on Radio Luxembourg in 1963 when she was invited to talk about her Elvis Presley fan club.

Savile later phoned her home to invite her to a London hotel because he had a gift for her “from Elvis”.

The woman, now 65, said: “As soon as I got inside he pinned me against the wall and started kissing me hard.

“He was trying to encourage me not to struggle and saying: ‘You’re an angel.’”

She described how he forced her on to the bed and raped her.

She added: “I couldn’t stop him. I was telling him it hurt. He was so heavy, he was too strong.”

After telling her parents she was pregnant, they paid a doctor £150 to have an illegal abortion.

She added: “I never thought to report it. We were a little family from Essex. He was Jimmy Savile. We never spoke about it again.”
