Hi BC and once again thanks for helping me to keep going. Like you I'm not sure that I will actually read all of this book but I don't like giving up on things. It does rather go on and on and on ..... My eldest daughter is a trained nutritionist so if I am ever in doubt I ask her. I used to own a little business in weight management using low fat and exercise as the basis for losing weight healthily and staying active. I'm happy in knowing that what I am doing is not detrimental to my health and it appears to be working too. I have more energy and I am not hungry and although I only lost one pound this week I feel thinner.

You have done well, Wendy as you are getting a steady loss. I am also reading the Kindle version of Fit for Life and it is really annoying me as there is such a load of waffle to trudge through before you get to the nitty gritty. Not sure I am interested enough to reach the end!

*looks around thread....and to everyone else, hope you are all doing well...don't be shy come on here and fess up! :-D

End of week 3. This was a six day week for me to get me back on track to starting my week on Mondays. At the beginning of the week I gained a pound, due to eating more when the visitors were here catching up on me but by the end of the six days I had lost that pound and one more. So in the three weeks five pounds in total ( not counting the one on and off again) I would have like it to have been more than a pound this week but to be honest I didn't expect it to be much more than that so I am happy that at least my weight is going down.

This next week, week 4, I have no excuses. No visitors only one meal out and a full seven days. I want a minimum of 2lbs off. This is a good average to have as the bigger the loss the quicker it goes on.

I have started reading the Fit For Life book on my Kindle and to be very honest in my opinion it is not a suitable way of eating on a permanent basis. I think that it is over written and takes 6 pages to say what could have been said in 2 and in parts contradicts itself. I am in agreement with a lot of the things stated as being a healthy way to eat but I also disagree with a lot of what is written. Having said that I am only 24% into the book, up to The Theory of Detoxification, for those that have already read it. The authors stress that it is easy to follow which I think it probably is if you never leave the house and eat all your meals at home. But this is ONLY my opinion.

Hope everyone else is doing well, probably all better than me in the last week.

Ann, if you really do feel hungry have something you like but drink a full glass of water a few minutes before you eat it. This will fil you up and take the edge off of your appetite.

Scozz.... NOOOOOO do not send OH out for chocolate, send him out for a magazine or some other inedible treat :-D

Susan, brilliant I too am on a mission and much as I like having visitors I am annoyed with myself for eating the food that I bought with them in mind, biscuits, cake etc. I am so pleased that I stayed the same weight but I also upped the walking etc. I can't help thinking that I should have been more sensible but it's too late now so onwards and upwards. My ultimate aim is to just be able to eat sensibly but to have a little of all the things I fancy.

Weighing in for my 2nd week

In all I have lost 7 1/2 pounds.......I have to admit that it seems like months instead of weeks that I last had a roast dinner.......but I am now on a mission and am feeling fitter by the day even though I have flu. The outdoor pursuits are invigorating and I am sure the brisk walks are helping to ease symptoms usually attributed to the dreaded lurgy.

Susan being cheery for a change......am off to dog agility classes tonight...that always cheers me up :-)

Wendy, if I am hungry my mind says eat something and it won't matter!

Trouble is I am not a great fruit eater except for bananas, and peaches, nectarines, grapes in season.

Tenerife Sun Report 17 Oct 2012 21:02

Hi Susan the soup will do you good if you aren't we'll, don't over do the diet while you are poorly especially as the weather isn't all that good at the moment. Sometimes if you cut back a lot you regain the weight quicker. It's good having the dogs as you have to go out each day while I can often think of an excuse not too, usually the weather.

Hi Theresa, good luck to your daughter and her new job. Try to get back on track with your diet as soon as possible because if you don't you are more likely to give up and all your hard work will have been for nothing.

Ann I don't really ever get hungry but I eat fruit or yogurts etc if I do, and keep telling myself it is only for a day and if it is later in the day that you feel hungry then you only have a few hours to go. Mind over matter and all that.

Hello all

I am afraid I succumbed to a bowl of spring vegetable soup 2 days running.....have lost 2 more pounds but put one on.

I have a rotten dose of flu at the moment but am still walking the dogs. First two then one. The fresh air is much better than staying indoors methinks.

Oh woe is me I am not a well gell.....but onwards we must go. :-(

Wendy, Thanks, do you feel hungry on the 500 cal days? One thing guaranteed to make me fail a diet is to feel hungry. And those days will be no alcohol days too!

Tenerife Sun Report 17 Oct 2012 18:21

No Ann I am very boring on the fast days. Fruit for breakfast i had an apple and a banana but i dont eat much breakfast at any time. Or you can have Weetabix low fat milk no sugar. Lunch 4 Ryvitas no butter low fat cream cheese and cucumber a LF yogurt and mid afternoon a banana. Tonight chicken breast and salad. The other days I eat normally but sensibly, I went out several times in week one and as you know eat pizza but I still lost 4lbs.

BC basically it is very much a no extras kind of day, chicken, fish, boiled veg, salad low fat yogurts, fruit etc definitely no frying, no butter, oil fat etc but it is only for one day twice a week. My daughter lost 4 lbs in week one and stayed the same in week 2 and lost 3 lbs last week, we are doing it together but she started on the Wednesday before me so has done 3 weeks. My visitors made last week hard work. I'm back on track now as I need to catch up with my daughter ;-)

Right now back from holiday, not got on the scales yet but we have definitely put on weight as we were staying B&B and didn't do as much walking as when in N Tenerife. Sooo next week will have a go at this diet. Does anyone have some good recipes for the 'fasting'/low calorie days?

Am glad to see this thread is still going even though I am a mere onlooker! :-D I am very curious, Wendy, about how much one can eat on 500 calories? And well done for staying the same in spite of the visitors.

Teresa, and good luck to your daughter....how exciting for her and hopefully you will soon stop comfort eating! lol

Best of luck to all.

Hi Wendy Scozz, Malcolm, Margot< and Susan and BC if you are looking in :0)

I have been very off track this last week and have not dared get on the scales. My Daughter has just gone off for her first grown up job and has left the nest for six months to work for P&0cruise liners. My way of dealing with it was a full scale munch on maionly carbohydrates :(

I will get back on track and im off work next week so will hit the gym again its a waste having a memebership I have not used for the last three weeks.

Hope all goes well this week Wendy and I hope you are feeling better Scozz, Its miserable feeilng so ill but well done on your weight loss :0)

I have been jabbed by the OH Nurse at work so hopefully will avoid any flu this winter.

Back soon

Well my visitors have returned home and I am back on track. I have had a week of eating and drinking more than usual but not obsessivly. During week 2 I have managed to stay the same. So 4 lbs over 2 weeks.

Now, week three and I am hoping to lose a bit more, I have only got 6 days in this week to get me back to Monday as my start of week, but I can do it if I try. Today is a 500 calorie day to get me going.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Please let me know how you are progressing.

I've now lost 5Kg (about 11 lb) and I haven't started the 5:2 diet.

Went to the doc, have acute sinusitis, an infection, and a fever.

He gave me 3 prescriptions, one of them I've never had before. Had a horrible reaction to it (after taking ONE tablet), and threw up for two hours.

Another one for my "Do Not Take" list.

By the time I get better I won't need to diet!!

Oh Yummy. Celery and Leek...one of my favourites. In winter i'll roast a dead hen and boil the carcase for stock which I skim thoroughly when cooled. Celery Leeks, Onions, Carrots and a drop of the magic "Spike".....just stay away from the spuds and you have a well combined nutritious soup....No bread with it...naughty naughty.

Lean stew meat, sauteed with onion and garlic simmered for an hour then add in carrots, leeks, turnip and celery....pressure cook for ten minutes. Winter fare.

One of my Missus favourites: Liver Provencale: 1lb lambs liver thinly sliced, 1 onion chopped, 1 green and 1 red pepper deseeded and sliced, clove of garlic crushed, 14 oz can of tomatoes salt and pepper. Layer the sliced liver with the veggies in a shallow casserole dish, pour over the tomatoes and season. 1 hour in the oven at 180C. 4 portions at 200 Calories per portion and fully combined!

Hi Wendy,Margot, Susan and waving to BC :-D

I stayed the same this week at weigh in. Maybe it's the body adjusting itself. Never mind onwards and upwards. I'm afraid I have had a full scale munch over the last few days :-( our eldest daughter is leaving home for the first time. She attended uni locally so has lived at home for 21 years. She has successfully got a job in a company which supply all the retail staff to the cruise liner industry and she will be off for a six month contract on Monday :-D. The cruise she is on will in operate the world tour so she will have the opportunity to see so many wonderful countries on her days off.

I think once she has gone I will be able to set my mind to healthy eating without distractions. Our youngest is a strange eater for a 14 year old. He only likes hot cooked food, casseroles meat gravy veg, soup etc with the occasional fish and chips. It's very easy to cater for him as he eats like us :-D

I have cellery and leek soup in the slow cooker. There was an offer on cellery when I went shopping a couple of weeks ago and I found it lurking at the bottom of our fridge. I added onions, garlic and chicken stock, bunged it in the slow cooker and will see how it turns out. I will report back later and
Let you know what it's like :-D

Visitors arrived okay and I made sausage and bacon rolls for lunch with shop bought creamy yogurt type things for pud. I did have one small roll and a low fat yogurt, so not too bad. The roll was nothing short of wonderful but I found one was enough while the visitors all had two.

My daughter has just finished her second week, she lost four pounds the first week the same as me but this second weigh in she stayed the same. She was disappointed but is carrying on with the diet. Daughter had also been to two partys and a house warming. I am looking forward to having a week where I have no invitations and I can see how it goes on a normal week.

Good luck everyone else. Christmas is coming and I hope it is only the goose that is getting fat :-)

Well done, Wendy and Susan.

Stay strong,Wendy with all those tempting things in the house, maybe just have a little, to be sociable?? Just do the best that you can in the heat.

We have our cold weather back again, and my knee is still not up to walking any distance.

I am still very motivated, and will do the best I possibly can.

We have a problem with our computer, and I find that I'm not able to get on here whenever I want to.I think that the memory on the external hard drive is full, and the computer just keeps cutting out,and turning itself off.If you don't hear from me,
that's why.Hopefully it will be sorted out soon.

Good luck, everyone,stay strong.

Best wishes, Margot.
