Such a shame you're going then..............we could have had a nice long chat about rationality, reason, logic and all those other things which can be a stumbling block to finding faith. ;-)

Stumbling blocks? Safety valves more like it :-) Faith in something that doesn't exist and has no trace of existence is a surreal concept to me.

However, the concept of faith is interesting. When the chips are down and the man with the scythe is looming, when you are lying in the mangled wreckage of a car crash, what is it to be. A prayer to Odin or the welcome sight of a team of paramedics.

I have faith in the paramedics, because they are real :-) But I accept that some people really think Odin is real and will save them. He's as good a bet as any of the other 3,000 gods around the world.

Who would the casual observer put his money on?

BTW I think I run out at midnight :-(

Farewell Eldrick, not always understood all your theories that have been argued about so fiercely in the past but admire your passion.
I have a simple view of life on earth, that is that we are all here for biological reasons only. We are all created in the same way but it is only the circumstances we are born in to that can change our thinking. To me the most important thing in life is to make a difference to others. We are all like flowers some are here to bloom for many seasons that bring beauty to this world and some just whither away.

Take care and hope to see you return in the not too distance future.

Jo :-)

I can't tell you, but I've got lots of factor 20 ready :-)

Joeva - I think that just about sums up my philosophy nicely. We are just miniscule insignificant accidental life forms on a tiny pale blue dot in an unimaginably vast universe. To think that any of us is something special or is able to gain the attention of an all powerful creator who made a universe that takes light almost 14 billion years to cross is unspeakably arrogant.

You are right - if you can merely help others, regardless of creed or colour, that is all anyone can ask. We are all the same, just some don't realise it.

:-D

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 21 Aug 2012 20:49

awww, luv the red spotty hanky, they are sooooo useful for all sorts of things, esp straining your scrumpy for twigs and dead wasps.

A cyber party would be great, never had one before. It might be fun to get virtually wrecked - no hangover, it's a win win for everyone. Except the landlord of course.

Bring on the bunnies and their balloons! I'm sure I've seen that on the telly..........

When the chips are down and the man with the scythe is looming, when you are lying in the mangled wreckage of a car crash

.............so, you do belive in something then?

Sounds like a quote from 'The Gargoyle'

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 21 Aug 2012 20:56

Yes, I believe in things I know exist. Seen enough car wrecks to know they are real.

Never read the gargoyle, so it can't be up to much :-)

StrayKitten
