Hi Kay :-)

just lost my reply lol, but basically it was to agree that phoning a hospital and speaking to a nurse invariably gets the 'comfortable' 'improving' platitudes unless it is the NOK who need to know more specific details :-)

But doctors can and do get a diagnosis wrong, or at least 'suspected but unconfirmed' till a later point . I just feel that ( and I pick my words carefully as I don't wish or intend to offend anyone) sometimes what is 'heard' is not what has actually been 'said'.

From my recent experience with ringing nurses (3 family members have all been in hospital recently) they will give you basic information - so-and-so had a good night etc. but will not give you a diagnosis on the phone, and will only follow up with medical info once you are aware of all the conditions.

Yes she did Jude,I have also been following Rachels Face book post which was to keep her many friends informed of what was happening with the children,I must say it is much more positive than on here and not one person has questioned any of her posts 2 posts mentioned being sat at hospital while Cloe and Benjamin have thier IV medication,so if you think Joyce is wrong then you must think Rachel is also,I would gladly pay 6mths membership for her to see all this,Bet she would be banned within the first hour

I knew Dutches fears and when the children were coming home, belive me I was so relived for Dutch.as the meningitis said.Bacterial ,,,,,,,,,, I had visions of a few days of Dutch being in a dreadful state because,

Bacterial Meniingitis can be a potentail KILLER and the person is very very ill and kept away from others who may be vunrable in 90% of cases will leave its mark if recovery is good,,,,,,one of many can be some loss of hearing, affected vision or eye muscle control, immune system plus others...some will improve in time, others will be permanant.

But it seems like Dutch will find her gtgrandchildren healthy and she will be a happy Nana.

Puss,,,,,,,,,Nurses do know,as its part of their training to know,,,,,,nurses take over from a doctor while treating a patient, she follows his/her instructions.so nurses learn on a daily basis and having seen so many illnesses can sometimes 100% guess what it maybe and what is what.....but that where it stops !! as no nurse will ever give a opinion or voice one especially to another senior medical person or anyone outside the professional workplace if she values her job.......

nurses are very often more spot on than doctors - after all they are with the patients day in and day out and in many ca\ses have more experience than some doctors

Puss said:
SUZANNE YOU ARE A NURSE NOT A DOCTOR WHAT GIVES YOU THR RIGHT TO HAVE A GO AT A NANA WHO IS VERY ILL AND DISTRAUGHT, IF YOU KNOW SO MUCH WHY ARNT YOU A DOCTOR,?YOUR A NURSE FOR A REASON

I believe that is insulting and should be removed, thank you.

Seeing as this thread is now at the top again I'll add my view..

I only ever replied on this thread, because I opened it in error, it was the thread above, on the day I replied, I intended to open, usually if that happens I'd just close the thread and go to the one I intended to open in the first place, but when seeing the word meningitis, I read it, as it is a condition I have had too many people suffer with, some with a good outcome, some sadly not, that was the reason I replied, where I asked Dutch if she was sure it was meningitis, and not suspected meningitis, then told her my experience, saying that often if a condition presents itself that COULD be meningitis, they may treat for that, but it may NOT be meningitis.

If you read through this thread, too many people answered for Dutch, and too many people jumped to too many conclusions, i.e because someone asked a question, then that meant Dutch wasn't believed, not so, some people, like me just asked a question, because what Dutch was writing didn't appear to match up with what the treatment would be for meningitis. As it turns out it seems Dutch's G Grandchildren DIDN'T have meningitis, fantastic !

If others hadn't got involved nudging up the thread telling us all we shouldn't reply, the thread would have gone into oblivion. Dutch's friends who speak to her would know the children were now well, others would have just assumed the children were well, and that would have been the end of that.

Instead people are answering for Dutch, when she is quite capable to answer for herself, as she did to me yesterday.

Surely that's the end of it, G Grandchildren are better, it wasn't meningitis thank the Lord, I know if I was told any of mine MAY have meningitis, and it turned out they DIDN'T I'd be THE happiest person in the world and tell everyone it wasn't meningitis after all, my friends would be over the moon, all I can see on here is that Dutch's friends are bursting to tell others that even though it isn't meningitis, others who told her it may not be, were wrong, what's that about?

Bottom line, Dutch's G Grandchildren haven't got meningitis, absolutely wonderful, I'm pleased your pleased, Dutch is thrilled, great.

I do wish people wouldn't report posts, I think we are all adult enough to make our own minds up re the content.

A caveat to that is the use of foul language which I don't want to see!!
