Was it not bacterial meningitis after all? I hadn't read that, but very good news if it wasn't, it's a rotten thing to have, and very debilitating,

May I ask, what did it turn out to be in the end?

Did I miss a post somewhere? as I didn't see that anyone said it wasn't meningitis or that the children were going home?

I think the thing is that when a lay person hears the word 'meningitis' even mentioned as a possible, that is ALL the mind focuses on. A workmate's sister back in the day was rushed into hospital and for a couple of days 'meningitis' was the only word being whispered...it was an extremely nasty virus, but recovery was surprisingly quick thank goodness.

Hope the children recover quickly now Dutch.

Oh I was reading PSDiamonds post...

Bacterail meningistis , is a long stay in hospital as its presents a life threat in a few hours if not caught in time.......but the children as Dutch said had had the jabs which may have helped further developement if it..

but good news as it msut have been a very worrying time.

~Lynda~ Report 14 Aug 2012 14:46

This was our experience of Mother in law's bacterial meningitis, she was rushed to hospital, as the doctor didn't know what was wrong, thankfully for the doctor on duty that night, had personal experience of meningitis, her father had had it years before, because of that, and not knowing exactly what was wrong, she treated for meningitis, but it was only after a lumber punch, that it was confirmed that is what she had, we were told that it could only be confirmed by having a lumber punch, perhaps things have changed now?

Reading back I am totally confused as to what in fact the children had/have, it would nice to know, what the outcome is, as if it wasn't meningitis what was it?

The reason I am interested is before anyone asks, is Firstly I'd like to know if the children are now better and secondly as I have said before, I have been touched by family and friends having this dreadful illness, and it would be interesting to know, what it was that wasn't diagnosed for a few days, and how meningitis was diagnosed without a lumber punch as we have had outbreaks in the area I live a few times it would be good to know the latest news on the diagnosis of meningitis i.e aren't lumber punches not needed now?

Perhaps if Dutch is not able to comment, one of her friends who speak to her often could tell me/us, as I'm sure we'd all like to know the latest news on the children especially.

By the way Caz I can still see your message on here, so your message has stayed :-)

Hello Lynda.....yep one of her friends has helped you out....here is the first post Dutch put on the boards, it says Chloe had a lumber puncture, Her brother did'nt because he was getting too upset.....l will find that post as well for you in a moment..
Why are you all doing this, Dutch put on the thread it's bacterial (yes thats the worst form) and because you have seen on here that they may be home today or soon, you are all presuming AGAIN that Dutch is lieing.

Lynda....l really am sorry your family have had such a bad time with this awful decease, but every patient is different surely. Don't judge because she makes spelling and language mistakes, she's told you as it has been told to you. She has been extremely upset, l really don'nt know how she copes sometimes.
Off now to find the other posting about Ben!!

dutch Report 14 Aug 2012 15:19

Chloe was taken in before her brother afew days in fact ,the children were fine so the hospital must have thought they were ok to let them go but as i said above they have to go back everyday for drip to be put in ,im only going on what i was told when i rang the hospital ,and i dont think they tell lies do you

There was no need to copy and paste Jude, I can read the thread, and how DARE you say I think Dutch is lying, I have NEVER said that, perhaps you ought to read my post without being so defensive, and seeing that Dutch has now posted your post is ridiculous.

Dutch I am glad both the children are now out of hospital, I'm still unclear how meningitis was diagnosed without a lumber punch, not that it matters, I was just curious, because of my dealings with the condition, and thought it could only be diagnosed with a lumber punch, maybe things have changed now? I like to keep on top of anything about meningitis, as have I have said before, it seems to come in clusters, and it seems to attack my part of the Country, about this time of year and at Christmas time. Thank you for replying Dutch. perhaps Jude will now realise, everyone who asks a question, isn't saying that you are a liar, they are merely asking a question, big difference. Copy and past that Jude.

Hope the little ones make a complete recovery :-)

l think some peeps on here are implying that. Sorry if l got you wrong.
But you obviously missed what Dutch had written about the lumber puncture.

Hope all is clear now, but l was trying to defend Dutch who gets got at all the time on here, unnecessarily in my view.

Well maybe if Dutch was left to answer herself as opposed to all the spokesmen it might be a lot less confusing , best to hear it from the horses mouth otherwise it all gets a bit garbled .

Lynda - a young women that works for my son-in-law came home from holiday a couple of weeks ago and her mother was concerned that she was so poorly with high temperature and confusion that she took her to A&E. The doctors suspected meningitis and straight away put her on intravenous antibiotics. They did perform a lumbar punch, so I assume that this is still the method used to diagnose the illness.
Fortunately, all was well and she was sent home within a couple of days.

Hope this answers your question regarding diagnosis. Obviously I don,t know if the method is used for little children.

Jo :-)
