Nothing on BBC text. This is awful, If she were a little older, you could imagine her going off and staying away and even befriending someone but this little girl is only 12.
I do accept that some children at that age are able to travel much further out of their local area but when the unexpected happens, then they are just children.

I do hope this has a happy ending but as you say Kay, the full story does not appear to be coming out at the moment.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 7 Aug 2012 18:44

City kids are far street wiser than most,,,,,,,,they are used to crowded areas with all manner of people it doesnt faze them as they grow up with it and any lurking dangers arent evident.

Not like in a small community where ODD stands out like a big red spot.

I'm sure the full story hasnt been released and what we get is what they want you to know,,but shes still missing and they need to find her quick so her family know shes safe.

I can only speak for my girl (twelve this month) and I know she's nowhere near ready for that yet....They may think they're grown up at that age but they're still liable to make bad choices. i drum into her..NEVER get into a car...or get to close to one that pulls up beside you....NEVER leave your friends and don't let any friends go off alone....NEVER go out without a fully charged mobile....if you feel unsafe head for the most crowded place you can and SCREAM LOUDLY and above all NEVER EVER arrange to meet up with or talk to strangers however nice they appear.....

I can only hope that both of them listen to what I have said.........but until I'm sure as I can be.......it's small jaunts around my road always accompanied by sibling or adult I'm afraid. x

i personally think 11/12 is too young to be going the town alone,
i know round here thats about the age some go with friends,
im shocked no CCTV has picked her up other than what was released,

havng said that we all have to make our own judgment on our children on how mature they are and all situations are different,

but my heart is heavy the longer this goes on :-(

AnninGlos Report 7 Aug 2012 17:48

I see a lot of youngsters in town who, at a guess are about 11 or twelve but they are usually in twos.

Her Mobile is broken & she was using her Mums which was charging

Im the same though my 2 don't go out without theirs if i can help it......My Daughter has forgotten to take hers to school once but if im honest i wouldn't let her go shopping on her own not yet she is still to young

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 7 Aug 2012 15:36

this surprised me to, my littleman isnt allowed to his friends without his mobile, so i can contact him, n his friend is only a few doors away,

i do hope shes found safe and well soon

Muffyxx Report 7 Aug 2012 15:23

Must admit to raising an eyebrow at the thought of a 12 yr old going into town for the first time without a mobile too...especially if she was taking a bus...she would want to fiddle about messaging for the duration of the journey in my experience.

Apparently her own mobile wasn't working and she was using her mum's....regardless...when the time comes I wouldn't let my 12 yr old out to town for the first time a)alone or b)without a mobile...but then children mature at different times I guess so maybe she is more street wise than mine? I dunno.

Just hope she's found soon x

According to reports she only had £10 with her as she was only popping to a particular shop for a pair of shoes. But a 12 year old without a phone is quite unusual I suppose. As Tess said maybe it needed money on it or charging.

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget

TessAkaBridgetTheFidget Report 7 Aug 2012 12:23

I believe that she did have money with her.
But was surprised that a (nearly) teenager went out without her mobile phone. Perhaps it needed to be recharged?

Otherwise would expect most youngsters to go back for phone if they had forgotton it.

This is extra worrying.

Hmmmm.....how many teenagers go out without their mobile (and money)?
The ones I see appear to have them glued to their ears!!
