Muffy......I know what you are saying, i was talking to a friend yesterday about the Gran & my friends said that she had said she was cooking pizza when Tia left so i said i had heard she was at work

So much of it isn't adding up, but lets just pray like Shannon Tia turns up safe

Tia's natural father Steven Carter also spoke to LBC this afternoon. He said he still believes Tia will come back safe and well.
Mr Carter also said there was some positive news in the search for Tia with posters of the missing schoolgirl being put on billboards across the country.
Tia’s father also said he has renewed hope that his daughter will be returned safely after having a tough day on Wednesday."
He said: “I was a believer up until yesterday - and yesterday it hit me emotionally.
"It hit me hard. I was a wreck yesterday and if I didn't have my family and the support from people around here, if they weren't around, I think I would have cracked yesterday.”
Mr Carter also spent some time with Natalie Sharp, Tia’s mum. He said: “We spoke yesterday. We had a little cuddle, held each others' hands and told each other it would be alright - she's going to come home.”

I'm in 2 minds really.

Did the gran firstly say she was at home, as she knew by human nature her partner would immediately be suspected once it was revealed he was home alone with her even if he is innocent ?

Or is it a cover up like the Shannon Matthews case?.- - something tells me why would they do this knowing the outcome of the Shannon case coupled with the public outcry it would bring to them.

Whatever happens it sickens me to my soul that this girl is out there somewhere, and the pain her family feels must be like none on earth.

Exactly Stray

Both of mine didn't get phones till they were in Y6 as i still walked up to the school with them

My son got to the end of Y7 before he stopped texting me to say he had reach school but my daughter will keep going it though she'll go into Y8.......I asked her did her friends let their parents know they were there & she said no only she does. She texts to say she is there then i ring her back

I'm ashamed to say I walk the 10 minute walk up the road to meet my yr 7 daughter halfway.......

actually I'm not ashamed tbh...she wants me too and I'm happy to oblige x

It is so sad that you have to take all these precautions when I think back to the 70s when mine were this age and allowed a lot more freedom and no mobiles at all.. But I don't blame you I would be the same nowadays.

I only meet my daughter (13) if shes staying behind after school for a club. Shes got a 3/4 hour walk there & has to leave at 7:45am for an 8:30 start. Fortunately by time shes passed the houses there are lots of children walking, same on a normal time home.

She got her first mobile in yr7, and used to text me when she got near school.

Now she only texts me if shes leaving slightly later, or if shes going to be a bit late as shes popped into Sainsburys on the way home with the girls.

She also walks to town by herself to meet friends. Town is only a 15 min walk away, past lots of houses and often used roads. And she does ring me to say she there, and when she leaves to walk home.

I still worry to death although I know shes as safe as she can be.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Aug 2012 17:37

It is a fine line isn't it between looking out for them and not letting them go to build up confidence and awareness.

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 9 Aug 2012 17:39

Does make me laugh how so many sneer at children having mobiles like it's some sort of crime..when in reality it's a win win for both child and parent ...if they're worried or there is a problem, you are there at the touch of a button....likewise parents can always check in and make sure all is well .
I won't let mine out without one x

Julie Report 9 Aug 2012 17:39

Joy.....I do feel for her Dad

Muffy.....is that you that posted about the T-shirt

Vera2010

Vera2010 Report 9 Aug 2012 18:16

I feel for all the adults but most of all Tia. There was a mother, father, mother's partner, grandma, grandma's partner. Yet this girl was walking alone. Surely one of them could have accompanied her to do a bit of shopping. Now I'm not going to say any more on the subject of families.

I do worry Muffyxx about the false sense of security given to mobile phones. Whilst I am sure you are very vigilent with your children and it is a comfort to you and them that they have a phone, when it comes to a child being snatched, the mobile phone is meaningless apart from later on in a Police investigation to detect its whereabouts.

I do hope Tia comes back safe and well. Can't bear to think of the alternative.

Her Dad isn't down this way Vera he now lives in Nottingham

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 9 Aug 2012 18:26

Absolutely Vera...but mobiles can be tracked if necessary and mostly my concern is with them letting me know if there is a problem or they're in trouble of any kind more than anything else.

Yes Julie...that was me....seemed like a really odd thing to stipulate when folk were trying to help just wondered why x
