Lovely custom for siblings

Dear All

Hello

Hope you are okay.

This Hindu festival is one of my favourites.

It is called Raksha Bandhan.

At this time, brothers and sisters exhange small gifts to show their love for each other.

Traditionally, the sister ties a thread bracelet called a rakhi around her brothers wrist and offers him small sweets called barfi.

In return, the brother gives a small present and promises to look after her.

As most families don't live near to each other, the bracelet can be posted and the gift is usually a small amount of money or a piece of jewellery.

As my local newspaper owner's wife told me recently, as with many other
religious customs, it can became too commercial

This kindly lady told me it is a simple custom and should be about showing
you value and appreciate your siblings and indeed those who may have the
'brother' or 'sister' role in your family.

As this festival date is near to the weekend, the little ones in the family can
do more celebrating!

Take gentle care all
Very best wishes
Elizabeth, EOS
