I agree, also a great fan of programmes like this.
I am definitely nosey but I think to have genealogy
as a hobby you have to be. Gregg Wallace should
be interesting as most of them are, and more so for
people who remember him from school etc.
Annie Lennox born in my neck of the woods so will
look forward to her story. Enjoy.

Fascinating - although I did keep shouting 'look at the image!' at the screen!!

Even OH was glued to the programme instead of wandering off.

I watched tonight. As is often the case I wanted the answers to lots of unanswered (and possibly un asked) questions.

i.e. what was the cause of death of Jessie's first husband?

who actually put Jessie's first two children into care?

did Jessie keep in touch with these children.

Was the "wrong" surname for Jessie's parents a mistake, or did the grandparents want to distance themselves from that part of their family.
What made the grandparents reclaim Beatrice?

What happened to Beatrice's half siblings?
Did (or will) Sam make any attempt to trace them?
...
After all they may have descendants who have photos of Jessie and Beatrice.

Who were the witness's on Beatrice's marriage cert. ? I was suprised that this wasn't the first port of call when looking for her details.

Looking forward to next week.

Agree with you all the way Tess, soo many questions.
I've recently read Sam Womack hadn't kept in contact with her family much.

I am hoping that as great-granddad found a foster home for his daughters, he was able to have good contact with them. After all they were not taken away from him.

One of his daughters was the informant of his death,, so she must have been in contact with him at that time

Hope that further investigation will prove this to Greg. and that he keeps in touch with his cousin.
Who's for tennis?

After tonights show, would anyone want to be related to Greggs family ? talk about misfortune !!!!

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 23 Aug 2012 11:24

Such a sad story, it makes you wonder how some people
find the strength to carry on. Found Gregg quite judgemental
at the start re his family members.

Next week its Patrick Stewart.

I think that it shows that "family stories" should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Greg. had already been given "facts" about his mothers grandfather. These "facts" coloured his thoughts, feelings and attitude to his great-grandfather.
When he found that the story was'nt true, I think that he was too ready to put blame on the person that he held responsible for the story being told, his great-grandmother.

Hopefully by now Greg will have found out more about the times his ancestors lived through. Perhaps he won't be so quick to condem in future.

Added to this, it is an edited programme, so he may have said other things which were not aired.

The one I really wanted to watch, Patrick Stewart, is on tonight. Finds out a lot of information on his father and his wartime experiences.

BUT it is clashing with the opening ceremony of the Paralympics.

Will have to catch up with at a later time
