Couldn't face the 3+ hours. Watched it from half way thu the athletes entering the stadium. Loved the lighting of the cauldrum. Not to sure about all that hugging. Very disappointed in Paul McCartney.

I haven't seen any of it.

and I deliberately have not read this thread to see what the general opinion is.

They are not showing it live here (afternoon, everyone at work, etc etc) ............... taped show starts at 7 pm

all I think is that anyone who planned an Opening Ceremony where the Athletes Parade did not start until 10 pm, and where the ceremony did not end until after midnight did NOT have the athletes' welfare in mind.

Less than half of the athletes appear to have walked ............... certainly that applies to Canada, and I hear also to the UK.

I bet you that the athletes will not be back in the Athletes Village and to bed before 1 am at the very earliest .........................

................ no wonder so many of them opted not to walk. Their results could be jeopardised by such upset of their routine.

What I have heard on the radio and on internet news reports does not incline me to give up my evening to watch the "show" ....................

which means it will the first Opening Ceremony that I have not watched since the 1970s.

The major word in news reports here is that anyone who does not have an English (British) background will not understand the show and its meanings.

Pity if that is the case.

You might have missed the biggest opportunity in years. There are over 300 million people in the US ..........

....... most have not heard of David Beckham, never heard of Mr Bean, names of singers were not even mentioned on radio reports

so any reports will probably centre on the fireworks and light spectacles.

Of course ............ that is nothing new! Most Olympic Opening Ceremonies feature people who mean little or nothing to the rest of the world!!!

Definitely didn't think it was rubbish! Had some spectacular scenes!

I loved the James Bond bit, Olympic rings fusing together and the huge flame made from the copper petals was very clever.
A lot of hard work and effort to produce, worth staying up for but didn't think 'the party' shoud have finished with Sir Paul....:-S

But I always like to see the athletes coming in to represent their countries, some of the costumes are stunning!

I thought it was pretty good and I didn't think it would be. I think we acquitted ourselves pretty well. Couldn't compete with Beijing, they spent a lot of money on theirs. Loved the cauldron, :-)
