According to my OH, he read or saw somewhere that the songs were chosen for the artists, they were asked what to sing. (I don't know who by).

Maybe there were a lot of older singers because it was a tribute to 60 years reign and they will have been around for most of them.

I wonder if Shirley at her age (She is over 70 I think) would not have coped with more than one song in the open air? I don't know if she still does concerts.

But, to repeat myself, a great night and well done Gary. I too think he deserves a knighthood, although as one of the compares said, they were ten a penny backstage there. :-D

I agree with with all the comments with regards performers, and was suprised with Cliff he sounded awful and so out of breathe whilst singing. So did Paul McCartney, couldnt understand why he was top of the bill, in my humble opinion it shoud of been Tom or Shirley, I was disappointed Shirley only did the one number, Kylie was good, Cheryl Cole cant sing full stop let alone live and neither can Will.I.am but she can dance. Madness had to perform on the roof as there are about 146 members of the band and they wouldnt of got them on stage or off quick enough but loved them and all the graphics on the palace wall. I didnt think Jimmy Carr went down well, Lang Lang wasnt my cup of tea but there was something for everyone, the Queen looked emotional whilst Charles was doing his speech which I think was good for a royal , but I do find a man of 65yrs calling his Mother Mummy somewhat creepy. :-D

I enjoyed it mainly but I think Cheryl was a mistake as she can't sing in tune, or even approaching the tune. Same with little Billy.

Cliff was embarrassing but then he always is. It seemed to get better once the dross was out of the way.

Disappointed that Brian May and Ozzy were left out.

It's a photo of some of the things on my kitchen dresser Stray, people keep buying me things to do with London, the Jubilee, and the Oympics, so it has become a bit of a shrine, gives us all a laugh :-D

I watched it,some singers were good, some were not,
but overall I'm glad I did,
nowhere in the world do they put on a show like this,
I will never see another Diamond Jubilee,
I enjoyed it thoroughly.
:-D :-D

ChrisofWessex Report 4 Jun 2012 23:32

Well I watched it although I have to admit there were some young singers who either I found noisy or could not understand their words so I 'muted' as I did with the band on the roof.

Sir Cliff sang some duff notes and Paul (known as God by my son) was not much better. Why was Annie Lennox wearing wings????

The choirs rendering the song 'Sing' were brilliant, as were Lang Lang especially playing Rhapsody in Blue, Alfie Boe and Rene Flemming (loved Alfied Boe when he did a bit of rock).

Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones - their voices were as strong as ever. Robbie Williams got the concert off to a good start.

Overall - something for everyone, regardless of age and taste. Not an easy function to orchestrate - ten out of ten to Mr Barlow!

Charles some years ago addressed the Queen as 'Your Majesty, Mummy' and got a laugh and now he tries it again. But he calls her Mamma.

Good night all - too much excitement past 2 days and more to come tomorrow!

Well done Garry and all those who took part..

Some I loved, some I didn't. But overall it was good entertainment.

Loved Tom Jones, Stevie Wonder, and the Jubilee choir was fantastic.

Firework display and the pictures as a backdrop on the palace facade were great.

I enjoyed it. Makes a change from all the doom and gloom.

Shame Prince Philip was unwell. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

As a whole I thought the whole thing was fantastic, loved most acts, the crowd, fireworks, atmosphere, laser lights, scenery. I was there on Sunday, for the flotilla, London was heaving, there again first thing in the morning for the procession, nothing like it, we do pomp so well.

I'm really proud of my Country, if we look around the world, there's not many as great as we are :-)

Bring on tomorrow, gonna be a great one :-)

Can't decide whether Madness or Tom Jones were the best of the night for me.....thought both were just brilliant....the special effects on the palace were just fab x

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 4 Jun 2012 23:12

fab all round with a few minor exceptions - someone shoot Macca!!!! Charles' speech at the end was great, the fireworks were great, everything was brilliant - proud to be British and part of the Commonwealth - well what's left of it anyway!! Had no idea all those people Gary Barlow found would be there tonight

I think Gary Barlow should be knighted and Cliff and Macca should get knotted!!!

Haribo

Haribo Report 4 Jun 2012 23:11

Stevie Wonder was brill,.....as was Annie Lenox, in fact, Chery, Grace and Cliff shouldn't have been let loose, all other artists were credible despite some tuning problems

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 4 Jun 2012 23:08

Ah but Tom Jones got the party going with Delila...that was brill!

Mauatthecoast

Mauatthecoast Report 4 Jun 2012 23:08

I thought the show was terrific.
Okay some of the older singers's voices weren't as good as when they were younger but it was great to see them just the same. I loved Stevie Wonder, enjoyed the choirs and Madness on the roof was well....madness lol ...the images on the Palace were amazing.
Also liked Alfie Boe and Renne Fleming and the pianist Lang Lang is incredible.A lot of talent on-stage.

Fireworks brought the show to a spectacular end.How some folk have negative thoughts about this celebration is beyond me :-S
