I talk to myself and there is no stranger person than that.

I do talk to strangers but only if they talk to me first, I´m actually quite shy,
My Mum would talk to a brick wall if would answer her but after her last 2 weeks I think she may be as shy as me now.
lol I am such a socialble person but I am so ruddy shy in real life it´s unbelievable, especially when you think I was a landlady of a pub ! :-0

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 29 May 2012 19:50

I talk to anyone.
When the children were small and we taught them not to talk to strangers, they used to ask if the person I had just chatted to at the bus stop was a stranger. A little white lie followed, as I couldn't be seen to be breaking one of the family rules, so I used to tell them they were 'Auntie Vanessa's friend- ( Vanessa being a family friend.)

I haven't heard too many graphic stories about ailments, but I have been told of a recently departed pet dog and admired his photos, which the owner was taking to be framed. She told me it was her first trip out without him and she thanked me for listening.... I hope it helped.

Talking to strangers led to an amazing coincidence when we went to New Zealand. In a gift shop in Christchurch, a lady was looking at the T shirts that I was admiring and I remarked that they were rather nicer than the usual tourist ones. Picking up on my non-N.Z accent, she asked where I was from in England and I told her I lived in Kent, but grew up in Hampshire. She had lived in Hampshire too, not only that, we had gone to the same primary school, married in the same church and I knew many of the families known to her. She wanted to chat more, but we had to travel on, but were returning to Christchurch in about 10 days, so on our return, she and her husband met us at the station, took us to their home for a lovely meal and she caught up with news from 'home'.
.............All because I talk to strangers.

I have to admit I very rarely start a conversation but that is because of my hearing problem, even with aids it is easy to not be able to hear the conversation with somebody whose voice you don't know, and/or on the bus with all the surrounding noise. But I will make polite conversation if approached. My friend even had an indepth (where are you from etc etc) conversation with a lady in the queue for the loo in Florida. amazing how much information she gleaned.

Eeyore13 Report 29 May 2012 23:00

I'm happy to chat if I'm in the mood-if I'm not I tend to lose concentration & say yes or no in the wrong place which can be highly embarressing.

I have a neighbour who likes competitive ailment conversations & she sulks if anyone has more ambulance trips than her...takes all sorts!

i dont see what illnesses are to do with the op, its like chinese wispers you get to the end and topic of conversation is no where near, well Ann your very lucky indeed not to be plaqued with chronic illness and being prevented from doing many things in life must be wonderfull.!

Huia

Huia Report 30 May 2012 09:12

AnninGlos, I also have problems hearing/understanding different voices because of my hearing problem, even my hearing aids are no help if there are other noises around. But I do love to chat to people.

Huia.

lorraineakapuss Report 30 May 2012 09:18

I WILL ALWAYS TALK TO PEOPLE ESPECCIALLY OLDER PEOPLE AS ITS PROBABLY THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS BEEN TALKED TOO THAT DAY, I CAN LISTNEN FOR HOURS ON END, I DO TEND TO GET UNFORTUNATE PEOPLE WHO MAY NOT HAVE MANY FRIENDS.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 30 May 2012 09:22

Difficult isn't it Huia?

Scozzie I am pretty certain that there are no 'leper' smoking places in Heathrow airport at all now, I think the whole buildings are completely no smoking. And I am not sure but Madrid and Tenerife may be the same.

Please keep confrontational comments off this thread where they have no place. It is not about illness but about talking to strangers. Thanks. :-)
