Wisechild you would need to buy the 3G version which downloads books without the pc. But you also need to check with Amazon if the 3G works in Spain. There is something at the back of my mind about problems with Spain. However I have just used mine in Tenerife.

I wasn't too sure I even wanted one, but got given it for my birthday.....now I just wouldn't be without it, and have never read so many books!

And the lighted cover I got for xmas was the icing on the cake...it's just brilliant, no need to have the bedside light on, so no OH moaning about being kept awake!

Apart from Amazon there are lots of other sites offering free e-books too,

Calibre is a very good one, (just Google it), I've got thousands from there......I kid you not, I really have got thousands!! :-D

I've got 3 kindles, an iPad and an iPod in case the iPad breaks down. I can actually read 5 books at once if I wear two pairs of stereo glasses and squint a bit. And if I plug the iPhone in I can listen to an audio book at the same time.

Brilliant, go for it. You won't regret it. MInd, the electricity bill has rocketed with having to charge them up all the time.

haven't gone shopping yet!

Haven't been out of the town for ages..... will do tomorrow because I have to have an xray, but there are NO shops near the xray place.

My birthday in three weeks.......... must give some not-so-subtle hints to OH <3

I ordered a 3G Kindle last Tuesday from Amaz*n and it arrived half an hour ago.

I also ordered a cover with a light, but that isn't here yet.

It's charging...................

I'll take it to computer class tomorrow, get some hints.

:-D

Hope you enjoy your Kindle as much as I do mine. It will take quite a while to charge up the first time.

I have also got a Kindle with 3G and a cover with a light. I'm finding i'm reading books quicker than I did before lol

How to turn it on? I sat with the instruction booket for a few minutes; it referred to a "slider" which wasn't marked on the illustration! Eventually found it.

Didn't get to class today because my knees wouldn't co-operate, couldn't walk down the hill :-( If I can't walk down the hill, I definitely can't walk back up.

Cover not here yet - can hardly wait, I'll be able to read in bed without OH being bothered by the light.

There's this site -

http://www.ereaderiq.co.uk/free
http://www.ereaderiq.com/free

which lists free books on a daily basis.

Thankyou Muffy & Choccy!

I did find some free ebook sites, but they were mostly classics (Bronte, Dickens & the like), got fed up having to read them at school!

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 29 Jun 2012 13:37

UNBELIEVABLE!

Muffy - I logged on to that site, and wasn't allowed to download anything, because I'm not in the UK!!

I'm really annoyed. Amazon claim they have LOADS of free books, but I can't find the website for Australian customers.

Grrrrrrrrr - message to Amazon will be sent soon :-P

I have a Kindle and I think it is the next best thing to sliced bread, I live in portugal and when i 1st got mine (last year) I had to buy from the states but then this year Amazon realised that I ordered stuff from the UK and changed it over for me. I read quite a bit and it is definately cheaper for me to buy books 1 or 2 at a time because otherwise I would have to wait until I had a order over £25 to get free postage
I am sure there must be loads of places like cafes and such with wi-fi that you can use, that it what I did until we moved into our house and got wi-fi installed

This is a marvellous site which lists free books for kindles. Not just classics but links to promotions on Amazon, they change daily.

Be warned though its very addictive, I now have over 100 books waiting to be read on my kindle.
