That's a shame Jude, I feared as much I asked the seller if he could let me have a photo of the back of the Munsch he was selling so I would know how much canvas was 'spare' for framing... ...and strangely enough he was "away from home" and unable to oblige lol. I dropped a mention that I was more of an Alma Tadema fan... just to see if one of those suddenly appeared ;-)

Its on a brand new canvas and not done very well either:(( the painting itself is ok. l may still get the local antique shop to look at it, but doubt they know anything about Meninsky anyways!!

l was warned and l was suspicious :(

l will let him know but l know l won't get my money back, a lesson learned hopefully!!

Jude, I'm sure you have done the 'right' thing.
It will be nice for you to have a piece of Art with the Family name, even if it turns out to be an " in the style of " and not an original.

As I'm not a professional artist - no I don't take commissions.
I do my Art for the love of it, I did sell a painting once at a Charity thing locally but that was different.

Hope l have done the right thing. It was abit of a rush during the last seconds and the 2 other bidders have an interest in buying and selling art from what l could see. Will let you all know when it arrives:)

Just a PS, if you are in doubt about a paintings age it can be worth asking for a photo of the back of a canvas .

The colour, method of stretching etc are all good indications of age. tacks not staples, joints on the stretcher and dust , all worth inspecting.

It went for £27.00......so wish l knew how authentic it was ??
