The Gov are saying it's bad for your health to smoke. So is...
Drinking
eating many foods
too much sitting about infront of TV, PC or game consols

So are the Gov going to debrand items on all things that are said to be bad for you?
Please don't say something like if you drink you only hurt yourself thats not true. If you drink & drive you can hurt plenty of other people.

Hi Kellie,
Yes, I know about fibres being brought home - that's just something we have to be aware of and live with.
Like I said, Bi l and ex didn't actually work with the stuff, but those who did would walk past them wearing their protective clothing.
Sometimes, you can get plaques on your lungs from contact. The government used to compensate people who had them, but have since decided it's 'probably not' a life shortening situation, so people should just live with it.

5EXY,
The Government's attitude does make you wonder if they think us 'plebs' who didn't attend public school actually have a working brain cell!!!Perhaps, for our own safety, cream cakes should be in plain packaging, and behind shutters.
Drink should have brown labels.
Fish and chip shops (and MacDonalds) should not be allowed to openly display their wares

I wonder what they think attracts heroin addicts to heroin - it certainly isn't the ornate packaging! It seems more socially acceptable now to use 'crack' than smoke.

Evening buses around here have been cut, which I'm sure the government will think is a good thing. After all, why should we who can't afford a chauffeur driven car or taxi go out in the evening? All we'll do (apparently) is drink

Let anyone put whatever they want into their own bodies, as long as they dont inflict it on me or expect me to pay for their addiction or treatment.

I couldnt care less about packaging, different colours or numbers for different strengths, its all nonsense. If someone wants to kill themselves with smoking, drinking, heroin, fish and chips or tubs of lard then go for it full steam ahead. Its your life, your body, your brain. Just dont expect other people to either fund it or treat you when you get ill from it. Doesn't seem unreasonable to me! Get rid of the nanny state and the sooner that people take responsibility for their own actions the better.

As a non smoker, wife of an ex smoker who gave up in 1994 by just stopping after smoking 20+ a day for 40 years. I can't honestly see how covering up cigarettes for sale is going to prevent smoking.

On the subject of other people smoking, I am with Eldrick on that, their bodies, their risk, providing they don't blow smoke into my face when walking along with their cigarettes. (and they do!).

However, don't think the risk of cancer is just lung cancer. A good friend has, in the past 6 months died from throat cancer, a really horrible illness leading to an early death. A lovely, lovely man who had all the warnings of a nasty cough but who failed to give up. He did try but sadly too late. Smokers, please, if you develop a cough, don't shrug it off, see your GP for help. You would not want to suffer as he did.
