I wasn't singling you out Suzanne, but the suggestion to keep our gobs shut doesn't sound like an invitation to join a debate!!!

This and the other thread have been refreshing and have shown up some strongly held beliefs of all kinds from different contributors and I for one think that has been interesting ---- Of course it's not going to change or damage any ones opinions :-D

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 5 Apr 2012 23:49

dont know much about sex Rose.x :-D

Debate is fine...on any topic...but I ask the question again, why not continue on the original thread on the subject?

well we have politics this week, and religion , maybe we could move on to sex? :-0

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 5 Apr 2012 23:39

i didnt say that lolly.
i dont believe the same as Eldrick, but i dont think you should shout the fact out, thats just my believe,of course no one has to do what i say,you all have your own opinions on religion. :-)

You have me lost now!!

At one point debate is good --Then it isn't

Every one that comes on the boards has a right to state their own opinion -- Then they haven't ....If it's the wrong season?

The old chestnut of not discussing religion or politics for the fear of causing argument is a little hackneyed. Might as well go back to not educating the working class or teaching children to read if were worried that might put ideas of free thinking into their heads or raise questions about the state or religion

Thanks E,

I dont know the good book, or practice from it, never swore on it to tell the whole truth,,,,,,,,,but those quotes /passages?above are as you know overlooked and if questioned are given a whole new twist to suit on what their meaning are ,,, ;-) ;-) ;-).

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D. ;-)

yes chris.
your asking for trouble if you do.we all have our views on religion,we are not bad if we dont believe.nearly all of our wars have been caused by religion.
we need to keep our gobs shut i say.x :-(

It has always been said that in order to avoid arguments - never discuss either religion or politics.

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 5 Apr 2012 22:59

yes ELDRICK . but you must realise that others have different opinions -
i do not praise him,but i try to keep it to myself,
start a thread about religion, and your going to get your self a fight, but of course you know that. :-D

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 5 Apr 2012 22:53

Whos trying to change anyone? Not me.

Sorry, but rleligion does not have a privileged position any more. I make no apologies. If its ok to praise him then its ok to to comment to the contrary. If anyone wants to fall out about it, thats sad but its the way things are, im afraid!

Rambling Report 5 Apr 2012 22:51

Suzanne, I also have no wish to change people's religious beliefs. I think we all find what feels right for us personally...whether that involves an 'organised' religion that we grew up with or none at all, or a vague belief in 'something'.

I think honest debate is great which is why I enjoyed reading Eldrick's previous thread , ridicule always weakens an argument imo, whatever the subject :-D

Just because some people don't want to talk about religion doesn't mean it's an off-limits topic. Some people do. I don't want to talk about soaps or Strictly Come Dancing so I don't! Joy's thread is not offensive, and neither is this one.

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 5 Apr 2012 22:43

ROSE
I was married in church,my four children were christened in our local church, and i attended my grandaughters christening in may.
my religion and what i believe in ,is personal, but what i will not do is try to change people ,i hardly ever talk about religion.
my daughter is getting married in Aug. in church, and i will be a very proud mum of the bride. :-D

Joy had one thread Eldrick, just as you did, both had slipped to page two, neither was offensive nor 'preaching' in my opinion.

They were both there for people who wished to read or not.... why not just add to your first thread?

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 5 Apr 2012 22:34

No. Its the bible. How can it be in poor taste? You remove yours and i shall remove mine.

Eldrick

Eldrick Report 5 Apr 2012 22:24

Suzanne

No. Sorry, but if you dont like it dont read it. As long as others insist on preaching I shall do likewise for the opposition. What is the problem there?

Just to be fair and offer a balanced view, here’s some of my favourite bits of the blessed holy book. I didn’t want to put them on the ‘My fav bible stories thread’, I wouldn’t be so bad mannered. So, rather predictably – if it’s good for one, it’s good for another…here we go!

This one doesn’t even happen in Nevada!
Should a slave owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod, and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall surely be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, there shall be no punishment; for the slave is the owner’s property. Exodus 20:20-21.

Please, no! Can we not just edit this one out….? Please?
If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl’s father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. Deuteronomy 22:28-29

Hmmm. I think 50% of the human race might have something to say about this one….
Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord." (Ephesians 5:22)

What’s wrong with just giving them an ASBO? Mauled by bears is a bit on the harsh side, even for those days.
Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!” So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths. 2 Kings 2:23-24

Not even Odin did this!
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you. (Deuteronomy 20:10-14)

We will give Genesis 38:8-10 a miss, it’s a family website and onan has got no place here.

And finally, for now…..
Psalms 137:9 Actually, can’t bring myself to type that one.
