I also don't like the idea of the name of the person requesting a review being made known.

It could just lead to more nastiness ........ and, like Mildred, I have seen that happen.

It might also lead to release of personal information that we try to keep private and "off the board" ....... the reason so many of us have board names.

I had a post RR'd about 3 weeks ago ........ the poster thought I had RRd his thread, (I certainly had not), so he RR'd my post in retaliation.

He pm'd me to tell me what he had done, by sending me this copy of the pm he'd received from GR ......................

---------
Dear xxxxx

You recently requested a message board response added by Sylvia (xxxx) for review giving the reason, Other
I can confirm that this posting has already been removed.
As you will know

--------

Obviously I have blocked out his name ........... and also one of my surnames that was included in the body of the email.

You can opt to have your board name used in ALL communications from GR, and I have used that option since 2004 ........ so they broke their own T&C.

When queried, they replied that that surname was included in My Account details as a maiden name .................... and IF A SURNAME WAS AVAILABLE IN MY ACCOUNTS, IT WAS USED.

GR's solution was to put "In Canada" as my maiden surname :-S

The moral of this story is ...................

........... make sure that you do not have a real surname in your My Account, even if you have opted to have your Board name used in ALL communications, or be prepared to have a real name released to others by GR.

I most certainly did not want the person who had RR'd a post in mistaken retaliation to be given my personal information.

2. If a member does press the RR button the name of that person is shown as in (This post was RR'ed by Fred Flintstone, for exsample)
.....................................................................................

not a good idea - it would encourage repercussions towards the reportee on the thread. I've seen things get pretty nasty when people have openly admitted it was them who reported a post, even though the report was totally justified,.

Hi Genes
Thank you for keeping us all in the loop.
Might I be so bold as to make a few ideas for you to think about.
1. Take away the RR button from free members.
2. If a member does press the RR button the name of that person is shown as in (This post was RR'ed by Fred Flintstone, for exsample)
3. The General Chat Board have MONITORS on 24/7 EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR

SO THEY DID BANN A MEMBER BUT DO NOT STATE FREE OR PAYED MEMBER,SO ONLY LOGICAL THING WOULD BE TO REMOVER R&R FROM FREE MEMBERS

Have received a reply from Rachel on Support Team - apologises that my thread removed in error and really do not want to offend long serving members. That is OK because I could not see how I had offended.

She also stated that the method with which RRs are dealt with was looked at this morning and 'our support team are now ensuring carefully the history of the member who is reporting and the history of the member who is being reported.'

Taken a long time but at last looks as if our voices are being heard.

Happy to see GR posting news on this board at long last. It has been my beef that many of us do not belong to FB and also that RR should be removed from the hands of non-paying members.

N.B. I have written just now to Support Team for an explanation and said Katie has not replied. I would like to know so I am not in danger of contravening the T & C in future!

Thank you Katie, it is good to know the matter is being taken seriously. We do appreciate that you need time to think it through properly though. Not allowing free 'members' to use the RR facility seems the best way to go. They would still be able to send you an e mail if they were genuinely upset by a post. The biggest problem with free (and banned) members is the ability to re-register under different names etc. If that could be solved it would help a lot. But really if free members are allowed the same facilities almost as fee paying members it is not really fair.

Hello Katie, thank you for replying.

Removing the ability for non payers is absolutely critical in the first instance. We are all able to judge whether a post may be breaching someone's privacy and can report ourselves if the poster doesn't reply to a pm request to either modify or remove.

The contentious subject of multiple accounts always comes back to hound us as do name changes.

I accept that some posts do need to be RRd BUT patently malicious RRing is just unacceptable.

I personally dislike the person RRing remaining anonymous. If their name appeared as the RRer perhaps this would discourage the vindictiveness as it would be public. Of course that could only be implemented if the non members abiliity to RR was revoked.

Thank You Katie,,,,Report facility is a fuction that is needed but is most certainly being misused and not in a very nice way......A logic outcome would be to make Review a posting would be to disable it from General Chat board completely and only have its use for the other 3 main boards where too much information may infringe Genes T&C.

Unpaid membership shouldnt have the rights to request a review of threads or posts,it certainly would be a favourable option as deliberate targeting has to stop.

Thank you Katie.

I stand very firmly behind the RR instant removal being limited for use by paying members only....and for non payers to go down the old email route.

I'm sure with the number of caring members on all boards on this site, we are more than equipped to be able to identify a privacy lapse and RR it ourselves so it is removed instantly if needs be.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply x
