Hi Muffy,

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I'm told it works.

Try popping it in an airtight bag of un cooked rice, take the battery out and open the phone up first. Leave it for a day or so.

This has worked on IPhones. I hope it helps :-)

And as for Ian Hislop...he can take it as well as dish it out...and his satirical slant on everything is priceless sometimes :-D

Right, got the gist of Muffy's original point and haven't read the thread all the way through, it's too late and I can't be bothered :-D :-D

I'll say this. When my kids were that age, mobiles were not an issue, they were still house bricks then, but trainers were, especially for my son. He always wanted the Adidas pair at £100 +

I made a deal with him. I would give him what I was prepared to pay for trainers...especially as he was still growing...and that was £25. He would have to put in the rest. Done deal. He found it tough saving the other £75 and settled for a £60 pair instead. But it taught him a valuable lesson. As time went by, if he wanted a pair of trainers, he'd save first, then ask me to put in what I was prepared to pay.

So yes have her pay towards a new one. It will teach her the value of money. She might not like it now, but she will carry that with her for the rest of her life, and that will make the tears and tantrums (if there are any) worth the while.

Muffyxx Report 28 Feb 2012 23:36

I'm quite comfortable with high school age children having mobiles.

In fact I'd be uncomfortable having it any other way......peace of mind is a wonderful thing.......priceless even.....and she gets the same security coming back the other way so everyone's a winner.

K....look again..........his sense of humour on it's own is priceless........I find him endlessly amusing x

I think the world has moved on since I was 11. (they didn't have mobile phones then lol) however, I think that it's perfectly ok for 11 year olds to have mobile phones in this day and age.

Apart from the convenience, I'm sure that it's reassuring to Muffy that she can contact her daughter and vice versa if needs be.

Can't say I've ever seen Ian Hislop as an organ, esteemed or t'otherwise, but in future I shall look at him in a new light.
