Oh but Rose. raspberries are so delicious. We were lucky enough to have some creep under the fence from our neighbour who planted them and we nurture them for the feed we have in the summer. I prefer raspberries to strawberries.

We have been into town, it was dull and chilly until lunch time but the sun has shown its face now. had it been out earlier we would have gone to Batsford arboretum to see the snowdrops. :-D

Really lovely day here, and the internet was off all morning so I have been in the garden and tidied up a little bit, scratched my eye I think which is stinging lol, and my sciatica is kicking in, but ...I might go out again and try and get out some raspberries they took over while this house was empty and boy are they resistant!

current flower count, 4 purple crocus and a snowdrop and a few daffs in bud :-D

I think it will be wait and see Puss, some will germinate and some won't now but may later, it depends on the weather. Better they stay under ground if it is likely to be frosty as once above ground the frost could kill them. Like I said, wait and see. :-D

I always plant my toms in February, I'm in Essex

Ebay have Tumbling Tom seeds, 10/12 seeds 99p plus postage

I don't risk putting anything tender out until the end of May

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Feb 2012 17:05

No, too early here too Wend, unless maybe you have a heated greenhouse. Last year we planted some in May and they still caught up.

Julia

Julia Report 21 Feb 2012 16:14

Oh no, not yet Wend. Far too early here for that. Next month with abit of luck.

Has anyone sown their tomato seeds yet?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Feb 2012 15:48

So do we, the seeds are sometimes a bit elusive though.

Julia

Julia Report 21 Feb 2012 15:19

I'm off to England tomorrow so I'll be looking for Tumbling Tom seeds. We don't have them here and I'd love to try them.

If we can avoid it nothing that is not hardy goes out before the last week May/first in June. Although some years when we are away all May we have risked it and got away with it. It is a bit nerve wracking though.

Julia

Julia Report 21 Feb 2012 13:21

Ann, that is why we do not start as early as you's in more southern counties. We are always bit wary.

Well done Lesley, I meant to add that. It always aggravates me when I see garden centres selling frost tender young plants (ours has fuchsia and other basket plant tots in) in February. People who are not gardeners think because they are on sale they can be planted outside.

Puss don't forget it's not to late to get frosts so make sure you've got fleece to cover your tender plants unless you have heating

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Feb 2012 13:01

Poly tunnel sounds good Puss, but quite large. do you have a big garden and have your neighbours commentated? Good luck with the plants that have justa rrived. What are they?
