Fred, are the fruit trees from supermarkets any good? I always wonder if they have been looked after properly.

I will keep that variety in mind ,thank you ,lol,just my luck ,i was in my local supermarket this morning to look for another Azalia ,and fruit trees ,only to find none of either Grrrrr ,Fred.

As well as summer strawberries there is a late variety = fruitts about Sept. Could plant a few of each. OH cannot remember the names of his!!! Typical!!

Hope you disposed of them quickly Puss ,sounds to me like young cut worm ,pesky varmints the little critters that cut through the stems of plants at ground level after all your careful nurturing ,grrrrrr :-|'
The sun greeted me as i got up this morning ,and i have been out back all day ,resulting in the veggie patch and greenhouse ,& my growing boxes ready to go .
Only one problem which i need suggestions for [polite ones you lot] he he :-).
I am left with a big square urn ,like the one i have my Nectarine bush in ,so ,seeing as i have an apple ,plum .the nectarine, and my rhubarb ,i am going to buy a nice dwarf pear to complete the collection,but ,which variety? .
I would like a nice tasting desert pear ,because the missus loves them ,but also a variety that i can use for deserts of which i make many .
I will also add a few strawberry to the urn as i have done with the Apple ,and Plum trees ,straw berries being the healthiest fruit you can eat .
Any suggestions please ,Fred. :-D

Im waiting for something to pop up in a garden tall pot, whilst having a look today i saw 2 tiny furry maggot like things they were cream in colour, never seen one before.

Can you believe this my uncle and his wife took over the running of nan and grandads farm, although grandad is 92 and frail my uncle takes him to the farm once a week, he comes back laden with farm produce, this last week when mum went to visit grandad gave her some fresg dug carotts, not only did i know you can leave them under ground till needed , but my aunty buys carotts washed and juliened fro t32co s.

Think Jude is going to pop in tomorrow she has bought her first back of compost, she is just going to make sure vic is better before she heads for the garden xx :-D

well ive had a shock, i didnt go in green house yesterday and today been busy, so i thought id give it a sprinkle, i was amazed the seedlings that have appeared, my tomato seedlings have come through on front bedroom windowsill, and ive put my new peach tree that has lovley pink blossom coming in my living room, against speckys approvall :-S :-D

Decided to chuck my plum tomatoes as they were suffering from the cold. However, the Super Marmande french ones are doing very well and look pretty healthy back indoors on a windowsill. They are about 5" tall but have sown some more seeds just in case they decide to go downhill.

Have a chest infection and the weather is freezing outside (well not quite!) Might go out and potter in the greenhouse. The parsley needs potting on. :-)

fred what time do you want me for dinner i am a mum you know, now specky cant come, so if i catch the next train to manchester then to newcastle , then im stuck, so if you inform your servent to meet me at the station i will be the one wearing the pink carnation, well my daughters are taking me to dinner to meet my mum so we will be all eating dinner at 3.

my son bought me a lovely bottle of joop so i will be smelling of that xx :-D

Kiltie ,one small cocktail size sausage ,wrapped in streaky bacon ,usually added to the meat tray in the last fifteen minutes .
I have even brought these little belters in Wootton Basset in Wiltshire by the same name.

We too use bubble wrap in the greenhouse to protect tender plants.

OH was hoping to get into the garden today but sadly it is raining.

Just popping in before i start my wifes ,mums day meal ,a nice fresh chicken with all the trimmings ,including roast tatties ,with roast parsnip ,red onion ,and sweet tattie ,all in the same tray and kilties added at the last thirty minutes .
To show the missus how much i love her ,i am even doing the washing up .lol.hows that for a crawler he he :-P .
I always used bubble wrap stuck to the inside of my greenhouses with either a silicone mastic ,or blue tack ,bubble wrap being far better than ordinary polythene it having better insulation properties.
As i used to start my show onions in later November and my leeks Christmas week ,a blue flame heater was not enough to keep the greenhouse above freezing point in sever frost ,and snow conditions.
This being the case ,i could always steal a Little time by starting my veggie seeds a little earlier too ,including the tomatoes.:-).
Had a good day yesterday ,smashing all the old pottery urns with a hammer ,into small pieces with a hammer ,using them to line the bottoms of the new plastic urns to stop the soil leaching out ,,am old tight asssed Scot .i waste nowt he he ;-) .
The front patio is now finished all the urns planted with Azalias .Peonies, multi coloured Heathers and a few other odds and sods,the front and back lawns are fed and watered ,and Fred ,now sore and tired ,is having Sunday off .
Checking the oven now ,then my coffee break on the patio out back :-D.Fred the holiday boy ,next week anyway ,lol :-D

Thanks, had a good break although the weather was disappointing, don't mind it not being sunny but other than Sunday it was so misty that it was not possible to see the beautiful scenery. However really we were up there to look after daughter not for our holiday. We have another week up there in June. And not walking we had lots of retail therapy. :-D

Heater needed for early sowing of seeds/young plants - up until end of April as night temps can be very low.

lol lesley , here in this backwater village the most unusual thing you see is a under ripe banana,

i expect fred and Ann will know this one, why do people have heaters in the green houses, i thought the glass or polythene would suffice xx? :-D
