No idea what you call silver beet over there- it is a green leaf veggie with a bigger leaf than spinach, related to sugar beets and beetroot. I have been growing hop vines for 10 years- so far not one single hop has been produced!

Swiss chard maybe or pertetual spinach? We grow both and we are still eating the perpetual spinach.

well my poly tunnel is up and OH has it ready for me to put seeds in appropriate pots , potoatoes are in a huge pot, and veg in other boxes, all easy enuf for me and my crutct and a seat to sit on, so im pleased ive got a fresh start with it, i let it go last yr as i wasnt able, so have a lovely day getting gardens ready and green housesetc.

I had a bargain of ebay 12ft long 6ft h and 6ft w for 42.00 buy it now. xx puss xx

Poly tunnel sounds good Puss, but quite large. do you have a big garden and have your neighbours commentated? Good luck with the plants that have justa rrived. What are they?

Puss don't forget it's not to late to get frosts so make sure you've got fleece to cover your tender plants unless you have heating

Well done Lesley, I meant to add that. It always aggravates me when I see garden centres selling frost tender young plants (ours has fuchsia and other basket plant tots in) in February. People who are not gardeners think because they are on sale they can be planted outside.

Ann, that is why we do not start as early as you's in more southern counties. We are always bit wary.

If we can avoid it nothing that is not hardy goes out before the last week May/first in June. Although some years when we are away all May we have risked it and got away with it. It is a bit nerve wracking though.

I'm off to England tomorrow so I'll be looking for Tumbling Tom seeds. We don't have them here and I'd love to try them.

Oh no, not yet Wend. Far too early here for that. Next month with abit of luck.

No, too early here too Wend, unless maybe you have a heated greenhouse. Last year we planted some in May and they still caught up.

I don't risk putting anything tender out until the end of May

hello Ann, Lesley and everyone, we only have one neighbour, he works away, but people around here are fine live and let live attitude.

Well ive got potatoes in a huge tub, sprouts, carrots broccoli onions peas beans, it says on tomato seeds to planting next month, all of these are in me tunnel, lol its not that big its only 12 foot long and 6ft hihm, but im absolutley worn out been dropping off to sleep for the past couple of hours :-\ :-\ :-D

I WAS WONDERING IF PLANTING SEEDS AND STRAWBERRY PLANTS IN A PLASTIC TYPE GREEN HOUSE IS OK, ITS JUST I GOT EGGSITED AND PLANTED EVERY THING THAT I PHSICALLY COULD, EVEN GARLIC.
IVE HAD 2 CLEMATIS PLANTS OUTSIDE WHAT DO YOU THINK :-)
